"Alright, my dear. Let's take a look at this baby," My mother said, rubbing this cool gel on my stomach.

As I lie on this plastic, reclined seat, I ponder my life with the sweet baby bouncing in my stomach, creating a show for us on the screen. Everything will change as I know it; and I'm ready.

"Okay, do you want to know the gender?" She looks at me, eyes gleaming. A proud grandmother.

"Yes, yes we do." Channing is standing next to me, gently squeezing my hand. He's proved a lot as a soon-to-be father, and my heart warms as I watch him watch our baby.

My mother moves the little ultrasound camera around, and after a few moments she smiles. "It's a little girl."

I feel little butterflies in my tummy. Having a little girl isn't what I expected, but the thought of having a little mini me following me around makes me overjoyed. Channing, who has been mostly silent, cracks a smirk. Our beautiful little girl flutters at my excitement. Never have I felt so fulfilled.

"What is it?! Tell me now. I need to know," Avery begs and pleads.
"A girl, Avery. It's a girl," I laugh.
"Wham, bam, thank ya ma'am! A little niece. Oh, I am thrilled. Pop! It's a girl!" She excitedly tells our step-Dad, as if he didn't already know.
"Honey, I'm going to need you to breathe." He puts his large, calming hands on her shoulders.
I'm exhausted from this day. Walking so much, all the excitement. I'm wiped out.
"I'm going to go upstairs and take a nap. Channing, you can stay if you want to."
He smiles, and pats my back. "I'm gonna go out to eat with some friends. I'll be back when you wake up."
I scrunch my nose and smile at him, and head up to my room.
As soon as my head hit the pillow, I was out.

But not for long.
