Good Day

The hot July sun beamed down ontop of my bare shoulders, making them burn. Even with a cowboy hat on, the sun still made my hair wet of sweat. I felt new droplets of sweat fall down my face and roll down my neck. I ran my tongue over my top and bottom lip as the taste of salt filled my taste buds. I tightened my grip on the reins and adjusted my feet in the straddle.

"You ready?" I heard a voice come from behind the horse trailer. I turned to see my best friend, John walking towards me. He had on a white see through button up that showed off his amazing biceps, tight wrangler jeans that made his butt look 5X bigger, old cowboy boots and a camouflage ball cap. His big dimple filled smile was on full show as he stopped beside my champion quarter horse, Rebel.

"Ready as I'll ever be." I smiled back at him. John and I have been best friends since we were little. His family was always around mine so we had no other choice than to become best friends. His oldest sister, Sadie and I were extrememly best friends as well. Reed and Cole, John's cousins also hung out with us alot. As you are probably wondering...who's John's family? "John" Luke Roberston is the son of Willie Robertson, CEO of Duck Commandor...and yes...they are best friends with my family. It gets kinda hectic sometimes. Especially when we try to go out to dinner together but fans just crowd around or gawk at us. But...its made the Robertson buisness extrememly successfull, so I'm happy for them!

"Molly, you still there?" I heard John say before i noticed a hand waving infront of myself.

"Yes, sorry." I sighed.

"Its alright." He said shooting me an amazing smile. "Alright, well you're up next."

"Okay." I sighed. I tightened the reins once more before kicking my foot on Rebel's back and hearing the clicking of my spurs. I made a clicking sound with a teeth and tongue and pushed my self up on the saddle to try and get Rebel to move. "Come on boy, lets go." I said making another clicking sound with my mouth. Rebel, slowly but surely moved his feet. We picked up the pace a little and got to a trot and soon we were at the gate. I watched as Kacey Heart, former barrel racer circled around the third barrel. Her foot lightly brushed it and it quickly tipped over. I sighed as I seen frustration all over her facial expression. She soon replaced it with a fake smile and raced out of the arena. She busted out of the gate and soon slowed her pace until she came to a stop. I watched as she wiped the sweat off her brow and sighed. I kicked the back of Rebel and trotted over to where she was at.

"Dont sweat it hun, you were amazing." I smiled at her and patted her back. She had long blonde hair that was in curls and a beautiful face that I envyed.

"Thanks, Molly." She smiled at me but it was just covering up sadness.

"Anytime hun." I smiled back at her. I heard the announcer call my name and I sighed and smiled. "Well, looks like im up."

"Good luck." she smiled before trotting off on her horse back to her horse trailer. I nodded my head in her direction before turning aruond and kicking Rebel once more and trotting back over to the entrence gate of the arena.

"She's a 5 time champion barrel racer here at the Monroe Rodeo. I've known this little girl ever since she could talk. She may look cute and innocent on the outside but this girl is one hell of a barrel racer, it wont be long before you see her with the pros. So now, would you please give a big warm welcoming to Monroe, Louiisiana's finest, Miss Molly Black." The announcer, Robert spoke through the mic that bursted through the speakers. I watched as the crowd screamed and clapped. I tighted the grip on my reins once more before steading my feet. The horn blew and the gate bursted open. Adrenaline bursted through my veins and I kicked Rebel and watched as she sped off headed straight for the first barrel. We rounded the first barrel in one swift moment. Next was the second barrel. My foot slightly touched it and I watched as it began to shack. I squinted my eyes and prayed that it wouldnt tip. Thankfully, it balanced itself back out. I smiled in relief as I kicked Rebel and encouraged her to give it her all for the last barrel. We around the third barrel in lighting fast speed and cleared it in one swift turn. I cracked my whip back and form as Rebel and I raced for the gate. I patted Rebel's back as I sighed in relief. "Good boy." i whispered into his ear as I kissed his neck. I smiled as the crowd cheered. I waved my hands to them all and waited for them to show my timing. Most of the girls were scoring around 15 seconds, so I figured thats where Id place around.

"Well, the Monroe, Louisiana barrel racing champion has done it again! Coming in at a time of, 10.04 seconds, give it up for your 6 time champion, Miss Molly Blaze!" The announced screamed cheerfully in the microphone. I thought my heart was gonna fall to my stomach, that was my fastest time yet. Immediatly people were rushing over to me and giving me hugs and congratulating me.

"Congratulations Molly." a little girl in the crowd smiled up at me. She was wearing a cute pink plaid shirt, regular jeans and brown little cowboy boots.

"Thank you sweetie. Are you a barrel racer?" I asked her, jumping off my Rebel and crouching down in front of her. She nodded her head wildly at me saying yes. "You are?" I smiled at her as she smiled back at me. "How would you like to come over to my place sometime and ride with me? I could teach you a few things if you'd like." I smile at her. She smiled and nodded her head at me.

"Miss Blaze, you dont have to do that." Said a blonde haired woman coming up and picking up the little girl. She was probably in her early thirties, I figured she was the little girls mom.

"Oh lord hun, its my pleasure." I smile. I reached in my pocket and pulled out my card that had my number on it and I handed it to her. "Give me a call tomorrow and we will set it up." I smile. "And dont worry about bringing a horse, I have plenty. She can ride one of mine." I smiled at her.

"Thank you miss Blaze. " THe mom smiled at me.

"No problem. " smiled at her. "And I will see you soon." i winked at the little girl and gave her a hug. I said goodbye to them and greeted a few more people before grabbing the reins on Rebel and leading him back to my horse trailer.

"We are the champions and we'll keep on fighting till the end." I heard someone singing from behind me. I would know that strong southern slang anywhere. I turned around to see John Luke walking towards me with a big gold trophy in his hand and a big cheeky smile plastered all over his face. I ran up to him and jumping into his arms as my legs found their way around his waist and my arms around his neck.

"Well hey to you too." He laughed as he wrapped his arms around my waist.

"We won!!!" I yell as I jump down off him and grab the trophy and admire it.

"No, you won. I just get to watch you." he smiled at me.

"I couldnt do it without ya John Luke." I smile. He shrugged and smiled at me. I rolled my eyes and smiled at him as I walked back over to Rebel and began taking off his saddle and hanging it up in the trailer.

"So, mom and dad were wondering if you wanted to come over for dinner tonight?" He asked as he came over and began helping me with brushing off Rebel.

"Uh, yeah I guess I can. Mom and dad are probably gonna go out again anyways." I sighed. To say my parents and I dont have a very good relationship is an understatment.

"Alright. Uncle Si and Jase were wanting to know if you wanted to go fishing tonight too?" He asked smiling at me.

"Now you know I cant turn down fishing." I winked at him. He nodded and laughed. We finished brushing off Rebel and I finally got him in the horse trailer after he was done putting up a fight, hes such a pain in the ass sometimes...stubborn horse! I made sure I had everything before I grabbed my trophy and jumped into my red Ford F-250 that my dad got me for my sweet 16. I watched as John Luke got into the passenger seat and looked at me. "What?" I asked confused.

"Are you ever gonna let me drive?" he asked with all seriousness.

"Hell no!" I laughed and shook my head as I put the key in and cranked it up. I turned the radio on and listened as it blasted my new favorite song, Boys Round Here by Blake Shelton. I eased out of the dirt road parking lot and headed towards John Luke's house. After dropping him off, I made my way home to put up Rebel and then get ready for dinner and fishing tonight! Its been a good day...
