((hello please jus t stop it's gettin g out of controlll - Italics = thoughts))
Miss Dunn was sitting down on the sofa, reading a book while Samuel was at school. Why is my son after? I just don't understand.. The thoughts overwhelmed her. She put the novel down and reached for the television remote, turning it on. It seemed strange, most of this show was based on this one character- a character wearing a black coat, hat, and gloves. Who wears gloves with- knives? She thought to herself. Is this even a real show..? It's in black in white. All these thoughts focused onto the television. After a while of gazing at the TV, she started to fall asleep, losing all focus from the television. She drifted asleep.
Susanne woke up, noticing she had gotten missed calls from the school's office.
She picked up the phone and called back. She almost dropped her phone on the floor after hearing what the principle had to say. She quickly got up and slipped her shoes on, walking out the door."We've got your son here with us." The assistant principle said, motioning Susanne to follow her into Mr. Herety's office.
Susanne stood in shock as she stepped into the room, glaring at her child.
"He brought this to class" the principle began saying, raising up a home-built crossbow and placing it on the desk. "He could've hurt someone!""I'm so sorry.. We'll have a really serious talk about th-"
"We've tried! We just can't- he keeps doing this."
The assistant principle stepped in, "are you kidding me? He needs to see someone." He exclaimed, putting his hand on his face in anger.
"That takes a long time! You know what? I'll just bring him to another school." Susanne said, crossing her arms.Susanne walked, almost marching towards the car with her son, their hands interlocked. She squeezed his hand tightly as she crossed the street, being cautious not to stumble into any cars.
"Mom, they hate me." He said, tears going down his cheeks.
"It's okay, it'll be fine." She whispered, almost to herself. As they walked into the house, Susanne put Samuel's backpack on the couch and took her shoes off, tossing them to the side.
"Alright... You should probably get some sleep.." She said, heading upstairs.
Samuel followed with soft steps, looking behind him every-so often for 'monsters' that he thought are after him. He caught up with his mother, making his way into his room.
"Why don't you choose a book to read this night." Miss Dunn says, taking a seat on the soft bed.
Samuel took the opportunity and grabbed the nearest book, it read
'The Babadook'
"Here." Samuel says, handing the book to his mother. "Are you sure..?" Susanne asks, examining the book. "You said I could pick!" He said loudly.
She flipped through the pages, saying the words outloud. The popups even scared herself. She quickly stopped and read,"If it's in a word,
or it's in a look,
you can't get rid of the Babadook"Susanne closed the book immediately as she stared in horror. What was this?
"Mom." Sam began, begging for his mothers attention. Susanne looked at Samuel, "time for sleep!" She said, pushing softly on the boy, indicating him to lay down. "Mom! What's going to happen? What happened in the book?" He said, almost screaming. "Nothing, we'll be fine!" Miss Dunn said, getting impatient with her son.
"Just go to sleep.." She whispered as she got up and put the book on the highest shelf of the room, walking back to her bed and laying down with Sam. She wished that he'd sleep in his own room. She wished he act like a 'normal' child.
She remembered quietly as she started to drift to sleep."Mom! It's 9 o clock! We have to go!" He said, already dressed and ready to leave. It was morning. The bright yellow sun was out, and it was fairly warm outside. "A- Alright.." She said, annoyed. Susanne stood up and went to go change.
As she was finishing getting ready, she heard a knock at her door. She ran up to it and twisted the knob to see that no one was there. She looked around outside and came to a conclusion she must've gotten 'ding-dong-ditched'. Probably some stupid teenagers..
She thought to herself, closing the door.
KNOCK KNOCK KNOCK
Three really loud, almost like someone was trying to break the door down. Miss Dunn quickly opened the door, seeing that again no body could be seen. "Hello..?" She shut the door and walked away, hoping that whatever 'prankster' would stop bothering her.As she was finishing up, she decided to call her friend Catherine, to tell her she would be showing up to work. The phone ringing stops as she hears a low voice on the other end, fastly concluding it wasn't Catherine.
"BA BA-BA DOOK DOOK DOOK"
The voice got disordered towards the middle, ending with a very high-pitched screech that made Susanne's ears ring. She pulled away from the phone, slamming it on the table. She quickly des coded why was best and ran upstairs to the book. There she was, a lighter in one hand, the book in her other. Miss Dunn carefully placed the book on the grill, careful not to get charcoal stained onto her hand. She flicked on the lighter, focussing on one part of the book she thought would burn the best.
Samuel ran outside, looking at the now burning book. "Is it okay now?" He asked, staring at his mother.
"Yes sweety.." She answered back, watching the flames.
