It was winter yet it was rain that poured down into the afternoon air, not snow.
Ann stood outside from her high school, her mind still in a madding blur of how she missed her bus. She was only a few seconds off and yet felt as if hours had drifted, making her miss the only chance she had to getting home. A backlash of rain covered her in a matter of seconds as she watch the buses zoom away, leaving her in their wake. Being the smart person she was, she hadn't brought a coat or jacket since the rain recently had damped the town, the only thing she wore was her white sweater and her soaked backpack.
A sigh escaped her throat and she stepped back into the safety of the school overhang. Only a few students were left and waiting for either their parents to pick them up or for the storm that ragged behind her to calm down. She shook herself as if she could dry, yet it did no satisfaction. She fished for her phone in her purse and almost cried out in joy to see it wasn't damaged by water. She sent a quick text to her mother, explaining what happened and asked if she would pick her up.
She set her wetted bag down and sank down with it, letting the chill of the weather take its toll, wind bursted with splinting ice. The young teen shivered and scrunched herself over her bags, hoping her body would be a big enough shield to protect her workbooks and such. She could feel the mix of rain and ice, bringing a slush wonderland to the parking lot in only a minute or two, how was she suppose to keep herself warm during the wait?
"Hey Ann."
Everything in the universe and plants stopped and gravity pulled, she looked up at the one guy that made daydreams and fairytales come true. His face inches from hers by leaning down, his blondish curls under a grey hoodie and a black backpack slung over his slim shoulder, his perfect smile on his perfect face. It wasn't winter anymore, it was the summer of the year for her now. She nervously played with her hands as she licked her lips, a slight distraction from his sky blue eyes that could brighten up a sky any day.
"Hey..Matt," she replied, knowing the slight jump in her voice as his name curled in it. It was so off to say it with him near, and without her friends around looking at her like a complete love sick pup. She couldn't help that gnashing fangs gripped her heart every time he either looked or even spoke to her. Last time he ever did was to wish her a happy birthday, and her body still jerked with surprise when she remembered it. He was popular after all, baseball star and every girl trailed after him like cats to cat-nip, she couldn't deny that she did too.
She watched as he eyed her bag behind her and how soaked she was, that her bun was dripping with tears and her clothes had set a tone of coldness to her, yet she felt warmness growing inside of her just by his watchful gaze."I thought you rode the bus?" He asked as he pulled down his hood, letting her blush over his facial features. She had to say, his face was different from the other popular people, no cruel statement ever washed his face and he had a loving heart to anyone who was near, another reason why her loving heart wanted to wrap around his. It killed her for liking him, she had been the one to think men were good looking yet would refuse if they ever asked her out, she couldn't understand why she couldn't feel like that way towards him, probably because there wasn't something mentally wrong with him that would've scared her a little.
"OH..um I missed it, I just got to wait for my mom now " she said said as she gave a embarrassed laugh then winced a little by how idiotic she sounded, as if a little school girl had just meet a famous actor or singer. Another gust of wind blew in and it took all her might not to scream childishly by how cold it was, she pulled her hands into her sleeves and hunched over. In the middle of winter and the one day it rained, snowed and had killer wind was the day she didn't have anything to wear to keep it away.
