Morning sickness is the most common of the symptoms and side effects in pregnancy. It is when you feel like you are about to vomit. Frequently, the pregnant woman does actually vomit. Although it is called ‘morning sickness’, it could happen at any time of the day, at any stage of the pregnancy. It usually settles down after a few weeks.
Another frequent symptom is drowsiness/fatigue. You will most likelyget the worst of the drowsiness during your first trimester. If you feel tired, don’t ignore it and try to stay awake; especially by using caffeine as that will affect you and your baby greatly. Go ahead with your with what your body signs are telling you, and take a nap, or close your eyes and put your head on a desk for a few minutes (if you are working).
A lot of pregnant women tend to need to go to the toilet a lot more. This is because, whilst you are pregnant, you start to urinate a lot more than you did before. Also, you may find that you are leaking urine when you sneeze or cough. You shouldn’t worry as it isn’t unusual. You are recommended to use panty liners to catch any of these extra leaks. However, you will only need this in the second half of the pregnancy. You can also help yourself by going to the bathroom more often. Going more often means that there is a lower chance that you might let loose some urine.
Food cravings are one of the most popular of all the symptoms and side effects in pregnancy. Having food cravings just means that you start to like certain foods e.g. you may often have cravings for ice cream, so just go with your instincts and have some ice cream, or maybe you have to go buy some. Even though there isn’t proof yet, many doctors are said to believe that the food cravings a pregnant woman has, are telling her what she needs to eat to provide her body with the thing she needs most at that moment. This could be that the woman needs to eat more dairy products for the child’s development.
Women find that their breasts tend to swell up during pregnancy. They also feel tenderer and start to tingle a lot more. This is just your body preparing for the baby’s birth.
Most pregnant women will find that they produce more gas during pregnancy. This is nothing to be ashamed of as it is not unusual during pregnancy. The only difference is that you may release without your control as you don’t have much control over your muscles during pregnancy. You can reduce the amount of gas you are producing by exercising and following the correct diet.
During your first trimester, you are more likely to get a bit of acne. This is due to the extra hormones in your body. You are allowed to take certain treatments, and most of the facial washes for acne are safe. However, you should always ask a doctor before you use a product to rid of your acne.
