My name is Dexter Nuvarah, and I am writing this because I can no longer tell what's real and what's not. It all started with a dream, one dream, then my whole life spiraled out of control. I don't know if anyone will see this. I don't even really know why I'm writing this. Maybe someone will find my story amusing. Maybe this could happen to someone else and this letter could be useful. Maybe there's no point at all. Either way, I guess I'll start with that first night.
The First Night
It started out as a normalday. I came home from The University, cooked dinner, ate, watched the news, showered, and went to bed. That's it, my daily routine. I laid there with theTV on and slowly drifted off to sleep. Now this is where things get weird. Iremember it so clearly. At the start of the dream, I simply woke up. Sounds abit oxymoronic, I know; but I woke up in a dream. This is where simplicitystops, however. I woke up on top of a stretcher. My face was wet and I was outof breath. That's when I heard a voice say, "We almost lost him." It was awoman's voice, familiar but I couldn't figure out why. Then I heard anothervoice, a man's voice. The type of voice that doesn't just make you afraid, itplants the very seed of fear in your soul, waters it, makes its roots graspyour heart, and forces its fruit through your body like a beautiful spring day.It was the type of voice that could make the bravest man afraid, make thestrongest man feel weak, and make any optimist lose all hope. I didn't know whothis guy was or why I was even here. It was dark; the room was cold and hard.It felt like a cave, or someone's unfinished basement, but in the wake of itall, I think the most terrifying part of it, was that the man with the scaryvoice knew exactly who I was.
