Aphmau knew this would happen. The nightmare told her. Yet she still went through with it. So here was the woman she loved, dying in her arms, because of her selfish desire.
The monster had fled. Aphmau didn't know where, but she honestly didn't care.
"KATELYN!"
She's been saying her name for a while, hoping it would bring said guard back. The blood spilled out of five neat lines across Katelyn's back. She jumped in front of Aphmau, taking the blow meant for her. Aphmau hugged the body close.
Katelyn's blue eyes - how she would stare at their beautiful depths, lost in their enchanting mysteries - were glazed over. Blood trickled out the corner of her mouth. It was unfair that someone could look so tragically beautiful while they died.
"Ah - Aph mau..."
Katelyn's attempts to speak broke her heart.
"It's okay. It'll be okay Katelyn..."
She sounded like she was trying to convince herself instead. Tears fell from her eyes, landing on Katelyn's pale face. Aphmau felt something brush near her head. It was Katelyn's hand. The one that had been bitten.
She didn't know how much pain Katelyn was in, but it must have been excruciating. And here she was, petting Aphmau, soothing her despite it.
Aphmau gently pressed her own hand against. It was alarmingly cold, even with the fire fists strapped on, even with the fire that still surrounded them. Her body was shaking with sobs.
Katelyn eyes became unfocused. Her sobs became harder. She needed to stop the bleeding. But what difference would that make? Katelyn, the woman she loved, was bleeding out and dying. She was covered in numerous wounds, those five gashes, the deepest and bleeding the most.
Irene, she was selfish. If she had at least one of the guys with her, this would have never happened. No, she just had to invite Katelyn to have alone time with her. She knew what was needed and what was wanted. Just not which was which. In the end, whichever one she chose, this was the result. Because she chose Katelyn, someone she knows is a selfish want, but swears she's a need.
Now, said wonderful woman was dying. It's all her fault too.
"I-I'm I'm s-so-rry..." Katelyn whispers.
All Aphmau wants to do scream. Why was Katelyn apologizing? It wasn't her fault. Before she can reply back, the hand that petting her, gently presses down. Aphmau looks down, tears still flowing, and Katelyn's there. She's smiling.
It was heartwrenchingly beautiful.
"K-Katelyn..."
Her glazed, unfocused eyes spark with a light.
Aphmau closes her eyes. Irene, this was all her fault. She opens them.
Katelyn had pulled herself up. All she wants to do is push her back down, tell her to rest. But she can't bring herself to even move her arms.
Katelyn presses her lips to Aphmau's. It taste strongly of metal and tears. Before it can even register Katelyn was kissing her, said person falls back down.
Lifeless.
Katelyn loved her back. But at what cost did that come to? She prayed to Irene, screaming that the divine could save Katelyn, or give her the power to.
Katelyn's eyes don't open up again. Her heart doesn't pulse once again. Aphmau's sure hers won't either, even if she is still alive.
Aphmau's not sure what to do. She sits on the ground, with her love's body on her lap, covered in said love's blood. Maybe her broken heart as well.
The fire has long burned out. Even with the forest surrounding, it had seemed to burn out.
"APHMAU!" It stabs her deeper than any knife that the voice that called wasn't Katelyn. It's Laurance instead.
He's rushing over, asking if she's okay. She was covered in blood. It makes sense for his concern. If only if it wasn't Katelyn's blood. Regardless, she shakes her head. No, she would never be okay again. Laurance notices Katelyn's body. His expression turns grim. He doesn't say anything, just helps Aphmau stand. Aphmau watches as he lifts Katelyn's body in his arms.
She should be feeling something. She wasn't sure if she was feeling anything. She was just so numb.
She presses her fingers to her lips. They still tingle with the pressure of Katelyn. She can still recall the tenderness, the gentleness, the passion, and the love of the kiss. Maybe she kissed back. She should have if she didn't. When she pulls her fingers away, they're coated in blood. Katelyn's blood. The knife in her heart twists. She'll never experience life with Katelyn, all because of selfish wants, selfish desires. No, she realizes, Katelyn wasn't a desire, or a want, she is a selfish need.
[A/N] I hope you enjoyed this little bonus POV chapter. Apologies if it's ooc. I do have another chapter in the making. It might be another POV chapter, it could be an alternate ending. I hope you enjoyed reading this. Feedback is welcomed and appreciated!
This will be a long author note than usual because I would like to expand a bit on the next chapter. I never really planned another ending, but would you guys like another ending? Like one where Katelyn doesn't die and they live together, all happy and not hurt. Just a suggestion. It's all up to what you guys want. The chapter isn't developed enough yet, so you can still suggest ideas. Thanks for reading!
