Dear diary,
I feel much worse…..and………very…….drained. At midday of today, I tried to forget about my sickness and stormed into Hugh’s house. The plague doctor was there, wearing his strange mask and staring at me. I came to tell him how furious he had made me and my mother, instead, a different message was sent entirely. His eyes were wide with horror as my body shrivelled up and I had completely no control over myself. It was exactly the same description that Espere told me and Ma called it a spasm. However, the plague doctor yelped in fear!
“She’s a demon witch! She’s been possessed! I saw her!” he ran out of the house screaming to all the remaining villagers. “She should be burnt at the stake! Just look at her black skin and red eyes. I think she tried to kill me” Hugh ran to see what all the fuss was about, and looked at me in panic. He said I was in a terrible state and that I didn’t have much chance of surviving the plague. Many villagers came over and called for me to be tried by the Lord of the Manor. They tied my hands together and made me walk a mile even though I could hardly stand. Once we got there the Lord of the Manor looked at me in disgust and ordered for me to sleep outside for the rest of the night to be tried in the morning. I have heard many stories of people being accused of being a witch and none of them have survived. I wonder how Ma is coping without me and I pray that she is alright.
Autumn.
