Jack walked down the school halls aimlessly, heading to nowhere in particular. He had a free first period and it was his senior year, he was looking for his friends but when he texted Zach he got no reply and Rian said he was sick. That only left Alex and Jack has always been too much of a pussy to hang out with him alone. It’s not that Jack is scared of Alex or that he doesn’t like Alex, of course not. Jack has one of the biggest crushes on Alex and that scares him.
Jack looked through the windows outside and spotted his crush walking into the building through the door only feet away from him. Alex was by his side with an arm around Jack’s shoulder in no time. Talking about the party he was supposedly having this Saturday that Jack had to be at “Because everyone who is anyone will be there.”
Jack sprung into action with the casual ‘no’ when Alex began his plea bargain about always blowing him off. He finally relented when the bell rang and walked quickly to math hoping he could just skip the party and have everything go on Saturday as he had originally planned: To lay on his couch with the TV remote and watch shitty reruns while stuffing his face until he either barfed or went into a coma. But he figured that could all be done Friday or Sunday, hell next weekend even.
Jack was going to skip the party, really he was, until Rian showed up at his house Friday night. Jack had been halfway through his third episode of Friends and had answered his front door to his unexpected guest in only a pair of black pajama bottoms. When Rian explained his dilemma about his parents starting to check his car for any stains and the possible one the keg would leave in his car when he picked it up the next morning. Jack agreed to him staying over and them both taking Jack’s small car to pick up the drink for Alex’s party the following day even though he new this would lock him into attending the occasion at his best friend’s home.
Jack and Rian drove to Alex’s house early the Saturday of the party. 3:53 pm to be exact. Alex had already set up the stereo without them and when Rian wheeled in the keg for the night Jack and Alex had the tub ready for it. They all added the ice and by the time all the valuables of the house were locked away it was nearly 5:30 and the party would be starting soon.
When people began arriving at the party Alex seemed to disappear into the crowd. Jack looked everywhere he could for the older boy but it was no use. Zach had said he had seen Alex with Lisa and Rian said he’s seen him with Tay but when Jack found both of the ladies dancing with one another on the makeshift dance floor Jack had given up. Just when he thought he’d spend a boring night alone on the couch watching dancers and drinking a few cups of lukewarm beer a hand clamped onto his arm and dragged him to a half empty room. Upon inspection Jack noticed a large circle being formed. he looked up right as Alex’s hand unclenched his arm and sat in an open space next to Zach in the circle. Jack sat across from them, next to Cassadee and some random guy he’d never met before, maybe his name was Joe or Josh, something along those lines.
A strong arm reached its way into the middle of the circle as someone closed the door to the room, Alex’s, Jack acquired. An empty wine bottle was left in the middle of the circle as the game of spin the bottle was about to pursue. First to spin was Vic who landed on Jaime. Who stood slowly ignoring the wolf howls and sat in Vic’s lap, slowly connecting lips and only pulling away to breath nearly two minutes later.
“Holy fuck” Tay Jardine squeaked when the two boys had finished.
Jack looked across the circle, locking eye’s with Zach’s mischievous ones. He smirked towards Jack before grabbing the bottle himself and spinning, kissing the girl it had landed on thoroughly before handing the bottle to Alex with a laugh.
Alex twisted his wrist and let go of the bottle, looking straight into Jack’s staring eyes. To Jack it felt like time had slowed. He was going to have to watch Alex make out with someone who had an actual chance with him instead of himself. That was the last thing Jack wanted to see so he began to get up to leave the circle but before he could get out he felt a weight in his lap and hands placed on his shoulders. He looked up to see Alex’s bright eyes inspecting his face. He checked the bottle, that was pointing straight at him. He shrugged it off quickly in turn of looking into Alex’s eyes before he felt damp lips touch his. The intruders were slightly chapped and soft at the same time. They were a contradiction to everything but at the same time exactly what Jack had always expected from Alex. He felt a tongue lap at his top lip and he speedily opened for Alex. The kiss grew hungrier and hands ended up tangled in Jack’s jet black hair. He could no longer breath but it didn’t feel like a necessity anymore. He continued on until he felt light headed. That’s when he finally lifted his lips from his friends. He stared right into Alex’s orbs as his surroundings came back into focus and one last kiss was planted on his swollen lips and the weight in his lap was lifted. Jack stopped paying attention to the game after that episode. It seemed as though everyone else around them realized it too because he wasn’t hassled to join the circle and neither was Alex. Jack didn’t speak again until the entire room had dispersed and he was getting up to leave. When he was nearly to the door, the kiss replaying in his mind he felt a hand being placed on his chest, directing him back into the room. He went willingly enough and sat at the foot of the bed while Alex shut and locked the door before sprawling out in the middle of the mattress.
“So, I hope you know that the bottle didn’t land on you Jack.” Alex whispered, sounding scared of what Jack’s reaction may be.
“Then why’d you kiss me?”
“Jack you really are a dip shit aren’t you?” Alex offered before launching himself onto Jack again.
Alex connected the two’s lips together in a greedy kiss, straddling the taller boy at the hips and attacking his mouth. The kiss was all teeth and tongue with the taste of shitty beer at the corners of both boy’s throats. When Jack pulled away, Alex rested his head on his chest and took a breath, listening to Jack’s heartbeat.
“You know. This entire time I’ve been trying to get you to make the first move, Jack.” Alex near cooed.
“Well looks like you had to.” Jack countered. Smiling down at the teenager sprawled on top of him.
“Maybe it’s a good thing though, does this mean I get to wear the shoes in this relationship?” Alex laughed.
“First of all Alex, it’s the pants. And secondly, what relationship?”
“Are you really that naïve? Ours. I want to be with you Jack.” Alex clarified, sounding shy and uncertain.
“I would love to be your boyfriend Alex.” Jack confirmed for the sake of both of them before kissing Alex with every ounce of energy he had left before they both fell asleep in Alex’s bed, fully clothed and on top of the covers.
