⠀ The large husky flattened her ears, watching as the paws of wolves passed by her hiding place. She was confined in the darkness with a pair of pups, neither of which resembled herself. Instead, the smaller one looked like his father. He was a mousy brown with white ears and cold, blue eyes. These markings were accompanied by the long black socks of his lower legs and a dark tail tipped in ivory.
⠀ His brother was a bit different. He was a silvery-gray with the same mousy brown down his back and tail, and it was outlined in an earthy hue. His paws, which had a silver band on each, and ears were the same color as the brown outline, and his muzzle was colored light brown.
⠀ The mother, Shale, glanced at her pups. They looked enough like wolves to be accepted into a pack, but they were tainted with her scent. She had fled the people with her two remaining pups - they had killed the others - in hope of finding their father. She soon discovered, however, that she had wandered into the wrong territory.
⠀ Light pawsteps caught her attention. A silver wolf with amber eyes locked with the icy glare of the husky. It looked like she was about to howl, but instead, the young wolf carefully crept to the mouth of the abandoned den.
⠀ "Why are you out here?" she asked. It was difficult for Shale to tell the motive behind the kindness. It could have easily been a way to get to the pups and kill them, but she soon realized that she had no choice other than to ask for help.
⠀ "I needed to escape my home. They were killing my pups," she murmured back after a moment of hesitation. The silver wolf nodded, but said nothing. "Can... can you help?" she asked reluctantly.
⠀ Before the she-wolf could answer, a stern bark caught the attention of the two. A black wolf narrowed her eyes in disgust, baring her teeth as she approached the den.
⠀ "Who's the father of these pups?" she demanded.
⠀ "A wolf of another pack. I promise I will leave. Please don't—"
⠀ "That's all I need to hear. Leave the pups and you can live. We have a mother who lost hers not long ago."
⠀ Shale, shocked into silence, narrowed her eyes. She was almost as big as the black wolf, but the silver one would likely jump in if a fight broke out. Her pups whined as the cold air cut through the fur into their skin.
⠀ "Okay."
Hopefully this is okay. I kinda got in a rush to finish it.
