I guess being ready for senior year included being prepared for a moment like this. And I was definitely not ready.
Let's just say I started my senior year on the wrong side of the bed. Literally. All because of my dear friend, Sierra Sontiagao.
"No." I declared defiantly, crossing my arms over my chest and jutting out my chin. It didn't really work out since I was still sprawled out on my bed, cocooned in my blankets with my hippo pillow pet covering half of my face. My defiant "no" didn't sound convincing at all since I mumbled it in my half sleep.
Sierra, my best friend ever since the sixth grade, decided to drive over to my house at five in the freaking morning just to act like my personal alarm clock. She woke me up by singing "Beauty and Beat" with the karaoke version blaring from her smart phone at full volume.
I knew Sierra loved Chrissy Costanza's cover of "Beauty and the Beat," but it didn't mean she had her voice. Not even remotely close.
After effectively snapping me out from my slumber, Sierra was begging me to get up. When begging didn't work, she tried to bribe me.
"Aww, come on, Lucy! It's not like I'm asking you to do anything bad like throw an X Project party. We're just going to Starbucks for breakfast!" My best friend, Sierra, whined in response. She shifted so she could sit at the edge of my bed. "I'll even buy you a grande frappuccino!"
As tempting as a frappuccino sounds, I held my ground. "If you think that's going to make me get up," I began, shifting so I faced away from here and my face was buried into my pillow, "then it's not working."
Sierra sighed and growled, "Alright, that's it." I felt her get off my bed and before I can hang on to my blankets, I suddenly found myself face-forward to my cold wooden floor. Groaning, I rolled to see Sierra smiling devilishly at me with my blankets draped over one hand.
My hands grabbed the first thing that it landed on and hurled it full force at Sierra.
She just rolled her eyes and asked sarcastically, "You think your pillow pet can cause my brain damage? It might be a little too fluffy, but it's just a pillow pet."
Before she could walk away, I yelled back at her, "Papoy is a little bit tougher than he looks!"
Yes, my hot pink hippo pillow pet is a boy and his name is Papoy. When Sierra gave me my pillow pet for my birthday, we watched Despicable Me afterwards. Apparently, even though it was my present, Sierra demanded Papoy to be a boy if I was going to pick the name. She said, and I quote, "Papoy is very confident about his masculinity."
She gave me a stern look and plopped herself next to me on my bedroom floor. "Don't change the subject!" She scolded. "It's senior year! Think about it."
"We have to do those huge senior projects or else we won't graduate." I reminded her, throwing my blanket over my face to shield my eyes from the bright sun filtering through the folds of my curtain.
She sighed and then tried, "Um, hello, boys?"
I snorted back a laugh from behind my blanket. "Good joke. That is why we have food in the world. Hashtag forever alone."
Sierra groaned. "Okay, what about Prom?"
I stuck out my hand from underneath the blanket to give her a thumbs down. Last year we didn't go to Prom because no one asked us. At Valley Brook High School, everyone needed a date in order to attend Prom so that the school can save money by having each table at the hotel full. "You might get a date, but I won't."
The blanket was yanked from me so that I was forced to actually wake up. I rubbed my eyes to see Sierra at my door, leaving my room. "Well you won't get a date if you won't get up! I'm giving you half an hour to get ready, Lucy. If you're not ready, you're paying for your frappuccino and breakfast. Don't think I'm bluffing." With that, she gave me a sweet smile and skipped out of my room and down the stairs, probably to help herself to a generous serving of food in my kitchen.
