When you depend on your parents so much and you grow up idolizing them, and then they make a huge mistake and show the side of a monster, it tears you apart. The person you grew up trusting and caring for the most turned out to be completely terrifying, causing you to retreat in a dark corner and be forced to witness the horrifying events in emotional solitude covered by the shadows.
Any abrupt, loud noises scare children. But when those noises are followed by the screams of your mother and the threats of your father that is when you get to know fear.
And if this couldn't be enough, take into account the police sirens that start to become heard from a distance, coming closer and closer until the red, blue, and white flashing lights are the only thing illuminating your living room.
And then the time where they handcuff your father and tell your mom that we have to go with some family for now.
Our closest family lived in the next state over.
So just like that. In those couple of hours monsters were revealed, your childhood was tarnished, and a family had now become broken. Scattered.
We left everything behind. Taking with us some of our clothes, extra cash, and important documents. There was no time to grab the old photo albums or that treasured stuffed animal that helped you sleep through the night.
After that we stayed in different hotels on the way to our Aunts house in a different state. We were momentarily part nomadic part refugees. Whatever you wish to call it. Point is we now had no home.
