CHAPTER ONE
The sweet scent of bread assailed her nose as she softly opened the wooden door of her brother's house. She felt tears forming in her eyes but she shook her head, her brother must be in his best mood because it's been a while since Colt baked something since Ginevere died two years ago. This is a news that she really need after a fucked up hunt.
A loud gasp made her paused as she sauntered towards the kitchen that made her quicken her stride. She cocked her head and fingered the gun that safely holstered in her waist. Shocked wasn't enough to describe what she felt as she saw her brother.
His beloved and sweet Colt was leaning in the kitchen counter and was enveloped in a fierce hug of a woman who firmly held his head precisely his neck.
"You better released him or I will shoot you." Her dead pan voiced stopped the woman from sucking the life out of her brother. Colt also turned to her with his still glazed eyes.
"Damn." She cursed as she saw the blood dripping in the stranger's woman chin. The woman just stared at her gun and to her, annoyance was evident in her beautiful face. Like she fucking care. She saw red and swiftly stride towards the woman and hold her hand fiercely as she turned and bend her in the granite counter. One hand tugging the woman's long black hair tightly. She leaned closer and saw the alarmed in her dark brown eyes, she smiled evilly.
"I'll kill you." She simply announced and already ready pointing the gun.
"Colette." Her brother's soft voice momentarily stopped her and the light squeezed in her shoulder relaxed her for a bit.
"Let her go." She started to protest but the firm conviction of Colt and worst the hand in her shoulder started to shake lightly.
"Damn." She cursed inwardly, Colt is terrified to her. Her. "Now." He whispered.
She forcibly untangled her hands to the bitch hair and released her sharp talons. Colette can't stop herself to growled to her brother's side who looked at her with a sad smile in her eyes.
"You're home." Colt simply said while trying to avoid her eyes as he helped the blood sucking witch who now eyed her warily. She keep her silence and sighed heavily while carefully tucking the gun in the holster.
"Unfuckingbelievable." Colette's paced back and forth inside her room. The carefully made bed was now unkept and the numerous stuff toys that she outgrown was tossed carelessly in the floor. She really wanted to turn the whole room upside down just to released the effing feeling about the whole event that just happened in the kitchen.
"What the hell just happened.?" She asked herself and made with a numerous excuses that to her own taste also bland. "Whatever is he to say. Just hear him first and deal with it like real grown up."
A soft knock in her door made her paused in her own pep talk. She sighed frustratedly. Colt never knock. Ever. The bitter taste in her tongue when that realization hit, that the two of them grown too much apart and it was her fault.
She opened the door and was greeted by a tight smile of her brother. How she wished that she'll see again the knowing grin of her brother that held a thousand mischief when they still young and Ginevere was still with them.
"You ready to talk." He said mildly and eyed her cautiously. Well, can't blame him. She was known for her quick and hot temper. She didn't missed the quick once over of her brother's eyes in her room. Frustration now was evident in his pale blue eyes that just like her. She just nodded her head and walked towards her bed and sat. Her face blank, as she heard the soft footsteps of Colt. Unsure but also determined.
"I'm glad you're home."
She pinched the bridge of her nose, she can't handle this talk especially when she looked into Cole's eyes that now laced with a slight glimer of joy. It made her more guilty."What is she.?" She asked, trying to change the subject. Her brother flinched and that really awesome, Collete. Congratulations. She grimly shaked her head inwardly for her rudeness. It seems that the woman in the kitchen was an important person or is it person or what.? Damn, she wanted to stop thinking about the scene in their family kitchen.
"Meredith."
She frowned and looked puzzled to her brother who was sitting across her.
Colt let a heavy sighed and brush his hair that been passed his shoulder with his hand. She recognized that gesture. He was upset and it was all because of her.Colette can't take this anymore, either she prompted her brother to answer the questions that started to circled her mind that will surely upset him more because the way she saw it. He also don't know how to explain this to her or better just play this like a moron who didn't saw any of that. She grimaced, she must be accustomed to this as part of her job but hell. This is a different case. Coletrane is the only family she got and it will ticked her every now and then that something unknown is lurking in her brother's side. And it was called Meredith.
Colette groaned loudly that made her brother stiffened and that just added to the frustration she was now feeling."Dont." She said firmly and eyed Cole with her own pale blue eyes. She didn't fucking want to see this. "Are you happy.?" She asked never leaving her eyes to his brother's face. He didn't answered instead a smile was now etched in his lips that reached his eyes. The first real smile, and it was enough to made her into decision.
