The Drive

The drive on my way over to Luke's house helped me revisit my thoughts. I knew I had to tell my friends and ask what they thought of this situation. I trusted them without a single ounce of doubt. I have two best friends. Our parents knew each other since their high school days and we have been friends since we were in our diapers. There is Layla who is the sweet, shy, thoughtful one of our group and thinks twice before acting on something. And there is Emily who is the exact opposite. She is known to rebel and is also the reckless one in our trio. She is fiercely independent and has an emotional wall so high that it's been impossible for others to get past that barrier with the exception of Layla and I, of course. Layla is fairly tall, has skin the colour of snow and is slender with big green eyes and a sleek blonde hair worthy of a runway model. Emily, on the other hand with her Raven black hair, hazel eyes and legs that go on forever combined with her bronze coloured complexion would make anybody mistake her for a Brazilian model. Layla had a steady boyfriend named Cameron who is an absolute sweetheart and is completely wrapped around her little finger. Emily on the other hand, has sworn off boys which is understandable due to her father walking out on her when she was five, for a much younger woman than her mother and so, she opts for casual one night stands instead. This was the reason for her trust issues and Layla and I are the only people she trusts. And where do I fit in the middle of this? I am an average height of 5'5 and a curvy girl with caramel coloured hair and chocolate brown eyes which is the only feature I like about myself. So, in comparison to my exotic-looking friends I don't have any striking features but have had a fair share of men who have asked me out only for the relationship to never get farther than the first date.

Maybe college will be the place I finally find a guy worth dating, I internally mused and looked ahead to see Luke's house or should I say more like a mansion looming ahead of me.

I parked the car and entered the house to find it looking like, well, a typical high school party. All my classmates from senior year were invited and music thumped from the loudspeakers above with a lot of red solo cups strewn along the front yard and the floors with people grinding each other drunkenly. I also saw a few people so wasted that they were swaying instead of walking and some not even that lucky were puking their guts out in the bushes.

Ughh...I thought and searched inside for any sign of my friends and was met the eyes of the person I least wanted to see.
