The House

As my mum drives down the road, i rest my head against the window of our car. The area mum chose to move to is just outside of town, in the fields. All i can see are a couple of homes and a very long drive way. At the end of the drive way is our new home.

"So Talia, looking forward to a new start?" Mum asks me.

"Definitely, and don't worry, i'll try to keep the secret... well secret." Mum chuckles at me, then looks at me.

"Mum eyes on the road please." She continues to look at me.

"Seriously, keep the secret secret this time okay?"

"Okay okay, now eyes, on, road." I point my finger at my eyes then at the road. Mum looks at the road and smiles at my worry.

As my mother and i walk up the steps to our house, i smell the air. The air tickles my nose as the fresh scents of the country side float up my nose. I can smell the farm animals from down the rood. Our next door neighbors are having a bbq. The smell of the meat cooking drifts over. I pick up traces of peoples scents. Mostly adults, some young, some old, but there is a girl and boy. Turning my attention away from the neighbors and focusing on the house. The house smells strongly of something and wood.

"Hey mum, do you know the history of this place?"

" Glad you asked. This house was made from the wreckage of an old school that used to be here. Why do you ask?"

"Ah, that would explain the smell." Mum just rolls her eyes.So that was the smell, it's an old school.

Mum digs around in her pocket and pulls out a couple of keys on a key ring. Mum gives me the set of keys. I glance at her, and she just shrugs her shoulders,

"They're your keys now" she says.

"Thanks mum." I say, then open the door to our new home.

It's a simple design. When you open the door, it opens into the living room, through the living room is the kitchen. In the kitchen are two doors. Ones like the front door, so i'm assuming that it's the back door. The other door leads to a dining room. Back in the living room is a staircase that leads up stairs, as we walk up the stairs, all they do is creek under our weight.

"Don't worry about them breaking, the builder reinforced them, and i'll place a rug down to stop the splinters, oh maybe..."

"Ok ok i get it."

I cut her rambling off. Once we're at the top, the path does a u-turn and there are two doors next to each other, and a set of stairs leading into the roof at the end of the hallway.

"This ones mine" I say running to the door next to the stairs. I open the door to my room and im happy to see that the walls are a faded cream and the roof is a bright white. Looking out of the window, i take in the view of our neighbours fields and houses. I walk out of my room, and go up the stairs into the attic.

The attic is empty except for a few boxes in a corner and a lot of dust. It'll take some elbow grease to get ride of this dust. I walk over the the window to open it and find its a little stuck. I guess the last owners didn't use the attic much. I give the window a shove, careful not to break it, and with a creak and groan the window opens. I feel the air gently flow in through the window.

I see the movers further up the road so i head down to wait for them with mum.
