Cammion's POV

I hold Angel's hand tight and she rubs her thumb on the top of my hand. I look at my mother's casket. Why my mom? She was the only one who has been there for me. She was the only one who cared. She was the only one who saw good in me no matter what I was doing.

"Now we will have a few words from her son. Cammion." Pastor Daniels says.

I hold Angel's hand and whisper, "Come with me."

She nods and we get up and walk on to the pulpit. I look at Angel and her eyes are red and puffy. She is sniffling and looking at my mother's casket. I squeeze her hand and look at the audience.

"Mama. Thank you. For raising me. For not just up and leaving me with him as many times as you could've. Thank you Mama. For literally being my soldier. He hurt you so many times. I wish it was me in that casket instead of you. Mama I love you. Can't nobody take your place. I'm going to miss you mama. I'm going to miss them times you would come up to the house while I was at school and when me and my homeboys would come up you'd have dinner ready. I'm going to miss them times when you would text me every morning with a bible scripture. I never read them but now I do over and over and over again. Mama I'm glad you're in peace now. I know you're in heaven chilling with gramps and grams and Auntie Mal. Now I can't say R.i.p cause knowing you you probably living it up over there. So L.i.t.s mama I'll see you there when my day comes. You probably going to be waiting on me with open arms. I love you. Thank you for coming family and friends. I've been going through a lot. Thank y'all for helping me through this hard time with you letters and gifts and phone calls. Thank you so much. I truly appreciate that from the bottom of my heart I do. Dinner will be served in the dining hall so start unbuckling your pants, get your bibs out and get ready to smash. Then after we eat we'll be taking my mother's casket to the family grave. That's all I have to say. How about you Angel?" I say.

She shakes her head.

"Welp go ahead and get out your seat. Kids first then Seniors then adults." I say.

Everybody rushes to the dining hall and leaves me and Angel there alone. I look at Angel who is looking at my mother's casket.

"My mom loved you. She really did. The day she told you to come over she was talking about how beautiful you are and how I have changed since you came. She told me that you were going to be her daughter in law and that we would make some cute babies. Man she got herself all excited."

I laugh, "Aw that's cute but how many babies was she expecting?!"

"I don't know? But she was right about you being her daughter in law. I will first prove myself to you. Then I'm going to wife you." I say.

She hugs me, "I love you. Even if you did ask me to be your wife now I would say yes."

"Naw I did you wrong baby but I'm going to prove myself to you don't worry. You'll see. I'm going to become the man you deserve."

She smiles very hard. Gosh she's so beautiful when she smiles. When she smiles it makes me just forget about my problems. All the storm clouds go away and there's nothing but sunshine when she smiles.

At the graveyard....

I cry on Angel as they lower my mother's casket 6 feet under right next to my brother and my grandparents. Angel is whispering comforting words to me. I think to myself how she doesn't deserve me. This reminds me of how it was when my brother died. My mom was holding me while I was crying and whispering how he's in a better place and how he will always protect me. Now I have him and my mother protecting me.

Everyone hugs me and Angel. My cousins and Aunts give me their numbers and stuff just in case I need anything. The pastor of my mother's church hands me a donation of $5,000 to help pay for the funeral I give it back to him because I already paid for all of the costs.
