She splashed cold water on her face to hide the fact that she was crying, again. She felt angry at herself for crying but she couldn't help it. It hurt so much. Although it would get easier each passing day, the hurt would still remain poking her heart constantly like a needle. It constantly reminded her of him, of the memories he had with him and how he left her alone forgetting all about her existence. At that moment her anger shifted towards him. She wiped her face furiously. He didn't deserve her tears and he never did.
She had to forget about him like he forgot about her and cheated. She always had her suspicions but she brushed it off, not wanting to ruin the relationship, but when she saw him with her something inside her broke. She held her tears and ran away from there, blinking furiously to remove the image from her head and wished all see saw was a lie. But it was the bitter truth which she didn't want to face and that is the reason why she never confronted him, never made him realise that she knew. She knew every time he said he was busy he was with her, that every time he said those three words it was a lie, that every time he stared into the distance she lingered in his thoughts and most of all she knew he never loved her. But she did love him and that's what made her hold on to him even when she spend countless nights crying.
She changed and her friends noticed but she always put a fake smile on her face trying to hide her pain. When she was alone, thoughts swarmed her head making her feel worthless. It reminded her how everyone left her. Either she was always the second choice or how they would be with her till she was some use to them. Her parents chose their job instead of her and many of her friends befriended her just because she was rich and her parents where influential. He was different; at least she thought he was. He proved her wrong, he used her. Tears escaped from her eyes again. She sat down on the floor as all the memories flashed back. Holding on to him and thinking he would change was the biggest mistake she could have done. She realised she was doing more damage to herself by holding on. She should have let him go a long time ago, the moment she saw him with her and that's what she did. It broke her and diminished the little trust she had on people. Sadness engulfed her but she knew it was for the best. To avoid getting hurt she built walls and didn't allow anyone to get close to her. The only two people that she could trust were her two best friends.
She got up and washed her face again. She was meeting them and she didn't want them knowing this still haunted her. She grabbed her purse and hurried downstairs. She caught a taxi and called Aisha that she would be late. She reached her destination within 10 minutes of the call and saw two familiar faces. As she neared them she realised they were talking to a boy she didn't recognise. She suddenly realised Aisha was talking about a friend who recently shifted to Mumbai. Her eyes were fixed on him as she walked towards him. He was lean and had longish hair which framed his face perfectly. She was busy looking at him when he looked up to her. His brown eyes captured hers and she instantly felt butterflies in her stomach, something she hadn't felt in a long time. Her friends noticed her too and introduced her to him.
"Sharon this is Swayam and Swayam this is Sharon." Aisha said. They both smiled at each other.
The evening went surprisingly good and Sharon enjoyed it after a long time. His memories would always be at the back of her head but today she didn't think of him at all. She looked up to Swayam and realised he was the reason why.
