Yasmin's pov
"Hey Yaz. Can I just spend the night here?" Hope asked as we drove through the neighborhood.
"Yeah. I guess. If it's ok with you, Lence." I answered.
"Yeah. That's fine." he answered quietly. We passed Hope's house and pulled into my driveway. Lence helped us get out of the car and inside. It was a long process, but at least we were there. We all sat on the couch exhausted.
"You guys hungry?" Lence asked us.
"Yeah." Hope and I replied.
"Pizza or Chinese?" He asked grabbing his phone.
"Chinese!" Hope exclaimed. Lence looked at me. I shrugged.
"Okay. Chinese it is." Lence laughed. He stepped outside to call the restaurant. Hope and I fell asleep while waiting on our food to get here. I woke up when I heard the doorbell ring. I tried getting up on my own. The doorbell just got louder and louder. I finally stood up, and I felt dead. I felt like all of my pain was gone. Was I dreaming? I was light on my Feet. I wasn't breathing. My heart wasn't beating? I felt nothing but apathy. Every sound was intensified. No. My senses were even stronger than ever. I could hear Hope's soft breathe. Something wasn't right. I was more alert and observant than ever. I could sense someone or something other than the delivery guy outside with the food. There was something in the house. I walked towards the door. It felt like I was moving in slow motion but I got there in what seemed like 0.3 seconds. What the hell is going on?
"Yaz?" I heard someone whisper. I whipped my head around to see who it was. Hope was sitting up with wide eyes. I felt a quick hand come over my mouth and in the blink of an eye, I had him to the ground. Why was everything in slow motion in my eyes but then so fast?
"Fuck!" The guy on the ground groaned. I sat on him.
"Who the fuck are you?" I screamed.
"Why would I tell you?" he replied. I knew that voice. Where have I heard this voice from?
That caught me off guard and let him roll over me and pin me down.
"You son of a bitch!" He almost flew to my brother's room. Something pushed or dragged him away. It was something too fast to be human.
"Yaz!" Hope was screaming.
"What?" I turned around.
"Yaz? Are you okay?" the look of concern and horror on her face.
"What? Of course I'm not okay! Did you not just see that? Why didn't you try to help me?" Why was I so angry? The back of my hand was burning. I checked the scar in my hand. Slightly gray at first, it slowly turned red.
"What the fuck?"
"Yaz, what are you talking about?" Hope asked.
"Uh. Nothing." I got up. Maybe it was just a nightmare? "Where's my brother? Where is Lence?" I asked firmly
"I don't know." Hope replied. We both went to see if he was in his room.
"Lence." I yelled throughout the house. No answer. I leaned against his door and listened for him.
"No! You need to stay away from them!" Lence was yelling at someone. Was someone in their with him? I tried to turn the doorknob but it was locked. I continued listening in on the conversation.
"I'm not letting her go back! I saved her from you sick monsters. They didn't deserve to grow up in that kind of environment!" I heard someone being pushed to the ground. I got worried and busted the door open. I expected to see two people in the room. I only saw Lence leaning against his computer desk.
"Who was-- in here?" I stood in the doorway dumbfounded.
"'What are you talking about, Yaz?" he wouldn't look at me. He kept pretending to write stuff down. He was trying to lie to me. I knew someone was here though. I could still smell the slightest smell from them. This smell was a mix of cologne and something disgusting. Something dead or rotten. Oddly it was satisfying to me.
"Um. Nothing. I'm just tired from the- you know-the crash." I lied.
"Yeah. You need to go lay down." He pushed Hope and I out of the room quickly.
"Ow!" Hope squealed.
"Oh. Hope I'm so sorry." Lence stopped pushing us and looked at Hope with so much sorrow.
"I-its okay." Hope replied.
Hope and I went to my room with much difficulty and Lence's help.
"Yaz are you okay?" Hope asked me right after Lence shut the door behind him.
"Um yeah. I just had a really weird dream." I replied.
"Ok."
"Oh my god." I sighed. "What are we supposed to do about school?" I tried changing the subject.
"Not go?" Hope replied.
"No. We can't miss any more school or we'll get in trouble." I reminded her.
"True. Let's call Lauren." Hope suggested.
"Yeah." I reached over and picked up the home phone. It sucked because our phones went down with us in the water during the crash, and we have to wait to get new phones.
I dialed Lauren's number. Straight to voicemail.
"I can't tell if she just declined my call or her phone is dead." I told Hope.
"Her phone is probably dead." Hope replied.
"Probably." I put the phone down.
"You know. Ben and Jeff are probably blowing our phones up." Hope laughed.
"I know Ben's number. Let's try to call him." I picked up the phone again and dialed Ben's number.
