Chapter 1

Rose Peters was dragging herself home from school, her long, lanky blonde hair drooping over her shoulders, and her sapphire blue eyes half shut from sheer tiredness. Lots of people told her she looked perfect, when in reality, she was anything but. She was a silly, tiresome girl! She groaned aloud as she was yanked into the same memory she had been poring over since it happened.

Rose had been strolling down the school corridor, when she had stopped to admire the view from the window. It had been break, and she had been on the 2nd floor; she had glanced down to the tree in the courtyard below, and seen Jake Cane! She had shrunk against the wall; then quickly hurried away. She blushed, thinking of when he looked at her. Then a faint popping sound brought her back to reality. Her eyes travelled slowly upwards, and saw two rabbit ears floating above her head!

Her hands shot up and grabbed the ears; an elderly couple gave her enquiring looks, so she smiled sweetly and edged away as they rambled on, oblivious to the rabbit ears poking out of the young girl's hair. "Why do you have to come out now, huh?" Rose growled at the tufts of fur which were poking out between her fingers. She stuck to the edges of the street, the sun was going down and the shadows were stretched out across the pavement like long, thick fingernails.

As she rounded the corner she saw her house, the pale whitewashed bricks glowing in the dusk, and the red roof turning a deep scarlet. Rose's fingers fumbled to reach into her bag, trying to find the house key; she wearily plodded up the steps to her front door. She inserted the key into the lock, twisted, and went inside.

There was someone waiting for her.
