Rose was happier to go to school than she had ever been, because she knew that she had so little time left. The sun! The pavement underneath her feet! It was all so bright and beautiful, so why did she have to leave it? It felt so unfair! Rose sighed. "It feels so happy today..." She murmered to herself sadly. "Isn't that a good thing?" Asked a voice behind her suddenly. Rose whirled round, and came face to face with Jake Cane!
"Aaaah! How long have you been there!" She cried out, really surprised. Then she quickly amended, "I mean, um, Hi..." Rose blushed as red as her namesake. Oops, she had just completely embarrassed herself. Damn. Jake smiled quirkily, "I just came out of my house, actually. " He indicated to a small two-story on his left, which had flowers spilling all over the garden. "Anyway," Jack continued, "I saw you in school yesterday, but you kind of ran away. Why was that?" He tipped his head inquiringly to one side.
"Oh, um, that" Rose stuttered, why was she making such a fool of herself? "I had just seen my friend, and I really wanted to talk to them." She winced, yet another utterly lame excuse. That was the second in the same amount of days. She glanced up at Jake. He was staring at her peculiarly, did she have something on her face?
"Um, are these... Rabbit ears!?" Jake asked. Rose's eyes widened. "Um, no! Definitely not, they're just a silly hair band I slipped on! Gotta go! See you later! Bye!" Rose backed away at running speed, wondering if her tail had come out as well. If it hadn't before it definitely would have now. The irony was terrible, she only had a week left to talk to Jake Cane, and every time she did her rabbit ears popped out! Talk about annoying...
After going half way to school back wards, Rose turned around. She was relatively calm by now, but she checked for ears just in case. "Yes we're all clear!" She shouted out loudly. By this time she was just outside the school gates, which were wierdly deserted. Rose slowly turned around, and was met with the rude eyes of her best friend. "Hey Rose, are you okay?" Sarah asked. "Only you're acting a little, how can I put this, odd.You know, more than usual." She put it bluntly, and Rose mentally winced. Yup, this was Sarah, honest to the point of pain.
"No, I'm alright. Nothing wrong with me. N-o-t-h-i-n-g." Rose smiled at her perfectly unconvincing lie. Unconvincing. That was bad. Damn. "Yeah, so.." Sarah looked at her pointedly. "That was obviously a lie, but that's OK, I'm not going to push the subject." Rose looked dejected. "How can you tell?!" She whined. "I am a perfectly good liar!" Sarah looked at her. "Yeah... Any news?"
Rose gulped. "Yeah, actually." She resolved herself. "I'm leaving." She smiled sadly at Sarah's dumbfounded expression, turned around and walked into school.
