"Mom, can I please have the science kit for my birthday?" I pleaded, using my "cutesy eye" trick.
"Ryan... That's really expensive. You know that. I'm not sure, dear..."
"Mom, please! This means the world to me. I'll... I'll make dinner more often. I know you work hard mom, and that you'd like a little more help with things."
"Okay Ryan... Promise?"
"I promise."
"Okay, I'll get you the science kit."
"Really? Thanks so much mom! I love you!" I jumped to her and buried my face in her chest in a bear hug.
"I love you too, Ryan." Scarlet smiled.I remembered this moment, and chuckled a bit. I was such a child back then. Now I know my place. I was fourteen at the time, and having constantly being told how intelligent I was for as long as I could remember, I thought I had the whole world figured out.
"Look at me now, mom! Are you proud?!" I screamed to nobody.
