Dane POV

My mind was at peace as I snuggled deeper into my covers, feeling a warm sensation on my face. My heart beat faster and I felt a smile grow onto my face.

“Mmm, Kristine.” I whispered as I involuntarily lifted my arm to hug my mate, but she wasn’t there. I met the floor with a hard thud that automatically woke me up from my slumber.

“The fu-“I started out as I rubbed my temples to wake up. I saw that I had slept on the couch and wondered why, but last nights’ memories came back to me as I remembered Kristine wanted to sleep by herself.

I look towards the bed and saw she was laying soundly asleep in my bed, her back towards me still. Admiring her sleeping beauty, I smiled to myself and imagined a life when one day I would be able to hold her in the mornings.

Lost in my thoughts, I slowly got up and walked towards my mate careful not to wake her up. Her face looked so peaceful and angelic as she slept; so soft and tender. Wanting to touch her delicate skin, I couldn’t help myself and raised my hand to do so.

Would she mind if I touched her while she slept? She looked so peaceful, she wouldn’t know. Would she? What if she woke and got mad? I didn’t want to see her upset.

Without touching her, I kept my hand to myself and retreated to the closet so I could get ready for the day. After a quick shower to wake myself up, I changed into some comfortable jeans, a black T-shirt and my fancy black dress shoes.

As I was about to get a hold of the door knob to exit, I heard the most wonderful sound I could imagine. I felt my heart jump with excitement as I turned around to the source of the sound. What I found was my mate sitting up with her arms extended as though she was stretching and yawning. She looked so…so beautiful.

I felt myself smiling once again as I admired her. I guess I was staring too long because I found her glaring at me, so I mentally slapped myself and changed my ‘game’.

“Good morning.” I spoke loudly yet soft and gentle. She didn’t respond, and somehow I was surprised. I did feel a bit disappointed though; thinking that today would be different and she would actually want to talk, but nothing has changed.

There was silence as we both stared at each other, then her stomach growled. I could see a slight blush roam her face as she turned the other way around, probably trying to hide her embarrassment. However, I just smiled to myself.

“Would you like some breakfast?” She didn’t even look at me, I’m assuming still embarrassed, so she slowly nodded and whispered a soft, “Yes, please.” It was barely audible.

Not being able to stop smiling, I opened the door to leave.

“I’ll get an omega to bring you some fresh clothing and escort you to the kitchen when you’re ready.” No response, but I knew she heard me. Closing the door gently behind me, I made my way down the hall in a great mood and instructing our head omega to handle Kristine.

Within a few short minutes, I arrived at the kitchen table and took my normal spot at the head chair. The cooks were getting some last minute things ready for the meal, which smelled delicious, but I was in no hurry.

Sitting patiently at the table, I searched through my phone calendar, email and messages to see what was on today’s schedule. I saw the Corbin had emailed me some important documents that I had to print out and sign later along with some missed texts from Devon and Tristan giving in their regular reports. They usually report to me in my office when it’s something serious, but when there are no sign of danger, I allowed them to text me instead.
