(A/N) Sorry for the wait! I had such a big writer's block, you have no idea :P apologies for any spelling mistakes or problems with bold/italics, this is copy pasted from word documents :)
by the way, on the first chapter, posted in the comments is the link to a pic of what Ecko looks like in this chapter, minus his eyes cus it's an edited pic and eyes are hard to do... ;P
It was almost a day before the storm passed, maybe more, though no one knew. Clouds were still covering the sky and the wind still swirled at their feet, though it was calm enough to get up and moving.
Ecko shook the sand from himself, pulling his body out from under at least a foot of it. He got onto his knees, opening his eyes and looking up at the sky. Standing up, he stretched and groaned as more sand poured from his clothes. The dunes stood tall in on the other side of the rocks.
He put a hand to the back of his head, feeling a matted clump of blood and hair. His head pounded and he felt the stinging cuts the sand had given him all over his ams and face. His shirt and pants were ripped in places but they still held together well.
Konah walked over to him, nuzzling up against his chest and whimpering. There were a few missing bags from his back but most of them seemed intact.
“Come on,” he mumbled, taking the harness rope in his hands and walking toward the dunes. His head pounded with every step and eventually he took the water bottle from one of the bags, chugging most of it. His throat burned and he felt like he swallowed a gallon of sand while he was unconscious. The dunes grew nearer and he saw the rest of the group sitting at the base of one of the tallest ones.
“Ecko!” Mari shouted to him, running over right away and wrapping him in a bear hug. He smiled, sighing, before she pushed him away to get a better look at him.
“You look horrible,” she said, brushing sand from his hair.
“Thanks,” he said as she brushed more sand off of his shirt.
“What happened to you? We thought you were with Kuro,” she said, taking Konah from him and going back to the base of the dune.
“Where is Kuro?” Ecko asked.
“He and Yamori went to look for you. We had no idea where you were.”
“Konah dragged me off when my hand got stuck in the rope, and after that I guess I hit my head or something…” he drifted off, trying to remember. “I don’t really know.” Mari stepped around him to see the back of his head, pushing the hair out of the way and poking at the cut. Ecko flinched, stepping away.
“I’m fine, Mari,” he said, taking another drink out of the water bottle.
“No you’re not,” she said. “Does your head hurt?”
“Mari. I’m fine,” he said again. She groaned, and they both knew he probably had a concussion. He could never tell with head injuries, Teichira gave him headaches too much to be sure of what was real or what wasn’t.
The demon had been completely silent since Ecko had woken up, and he took it as a blessing. It felt good not to be pestered by the nuisance. Even so, everything was still very fuzzy and blurred and he felt dizzy.
“We should find Kuro and Yamori, they shouldn’t have gotten far,” Ikiru said, standing up.
“They’re on the other side of the dunes, we could just keep walking the way we need to and we’ll run into them,” Nikko said, pulling himself to his feet and brushing sand from his clothes.
