Black Night; White Day

Prologue

Note: Mainly inspired by the anime: "Darker than Black". Enjoy the story :)

It's been three nights already since I defied the will of my masters. I have no place to go, nothing to eat and over a hundred assassins wanting to take my life. However, it takes more than just that to take me down. I will never go down without a fight to the end. The real problem here is that I have another person with me. Her name is Erina Ze Estella Vastirir, and if that is a mouthful already she is also the only princess of Vastirir, a small country in the far west.

"Rizara... I can't take much more of this anymore."

"I promise you we will get to a better place soon"

Little did she know that there wasn't much confidence in my voice when I said that. I really do want to get her to a better place but I don't know if I have the power to do so.

"If you say so Rizara, I trust you with my life"

When she said those words to me I felt nothing but guilt. Guilt of not knowing how much longer I can keep her away from harm. This is probably the first time in her life to face such a life threatening situation.

We were hiding in an alley of the city hiding from our pursuers. Just how much longer can we keep this up. I pray to the God that had forsaken me to just save Erina and not me. That is all I wish for. Lots of blood have been spilled by my hands and I believe that at least saving Erina is the final way for me to atone for all of the sins that I had done in the past.

Suddenly out of nowhere, two assassins appear.

"Hu hu hu... we were the first ones to find you.... Kur-"

I quickly draw my sword and in an instance sliced both of their guts.

"Erina quickly run!"

Erina without any shoes or those fancy slippers that she would normally wear ran with all her might.

Suddenly the person I didn't want to see the most appeared.

"My my.. What do we have here? Long time no see Kuro......... Yasha."

More assassins popped up. This is getting bad. In about 5 seconds we were already surrounded by the syndicate's assassins. 

"Even you cannot possibly take on all of us Kuroyasha"

"Hmmph, we will see about that Shiro"

I hate to admit it but Shiro was right, I can't possibly dream of taking on ten assassins at once. There has to be another way for us to escape. It seems that in the end I had no other choice but to fight. I draw out my sword once more. Ten assassins started to charge at us. I took out my smoke bomb and threw it at the assassins. I myself charged into the smoke that was released by my smoke bomb. 

I sliced one assassin after another until the ten that attacked us were not able to fight anymore. Suddenly Shiro before I knew it took Erina as hostage.

"Rizara!!!! Help me!!!"

What have I done... The girl that I was supposed to protect with my life was in the hands of one of the best assassins in the syndicate. Shiro is known for being heartless and is flawless when it comes to finishing the missions given to him. 

"Shiro! Let her go this instant!" 

"Hehehe this was always your weakness Kuroyasha, you always have unnecessary attachments."

"If you don't let her go this instant you will regret it for the rest of your life."

"What are you going to d-"

Before Shiro was able to finish what he was saying. I lost all control and just went straight for Shiro. In that split second before Shiro was able to finish his sentence he had already lost his right eye. I grabbed Erina and we made a run for it.

Enraged, Shiro went after us. With Erina I can't run as fast as I can and Shiro filled with blood lust is running after us behind. At this point I know Shiro has lost the ability of rational thinking and is only after one thing. He was after me to get revenge for taking his right eye. 

Shiro drew his sword and jumped. I quickly push Erina into the garbage container and I am finally able to run at full speed. 

Before I am able to run at full speed...

My eyes started to close. It felt really heavy. I saw blood running down my body. I was losing consciousness. The last thing I heard was Erina screaming

"RIZARA!!!!!"
