Darkness

Feliciano slowly awoke from his sleep, seeing only darkness and the sound of Ludwig's breath.

But this was normal.

The beautiful nation known as Italy had went blind at a very young age, not long after Holy Roman Empire had left, and the only people who knew were Ludwig and Romano. While other people thought he merely had a strange habit of closing his eyes, the truth was much darker than that.
《Feli's p.o.v.》
I sighed as I sat up, slowly shaking Ludwig to wake him up. I receive no reaction except for a small groan, so I decide to let him sleep. I trudge downstairs into the kitchen, knowing exactly when to turn and when to stop. I open the fridge as quietly as possible, but failed when all the bottles containing various sauces clattered together. Just as he thought, he heard the bedroom door open and out came a messy-haired german.
"Guten morgen, Italy." He sighed as he slicked his hair back.
"Good morning, Ludwig!" Italy sang as he continued to feel around inside the fridge, only finding more tubs of leftover pasta.
"Listen, Italy... I was wanting to talk to you about something... you may want to sit down." Germany stuttered.
Italy's breath hitched, realizing that he was going to have a serious conversation. Without a word, Feli shuffled to the small table in which he and Ludwig often ate meals together, and sat down slowly.
"It's about your eyes." Feliciano tilted his head slightly, encouraging his friend to continue."It's just that... it's kind of bothering me how you keep such a depressing secret... It makes me wonder, how do you even manage to smile? You don't even know what most of us look like."
Feli froze, reality suddenly smacking him in the face. How did he even manage to smile? He looked down, trying to piece together the right words to help Germany understand.
"Well, I just want to fit in. I don't want people to treat me differently just because I'm missing out on the beautiful things I never had the chance to see for myself." Italy could feel the tears threatening to spill.
"H-how do think I look?" Feli couldn't take it. The lump in his throat became unbearable. "Um... you see, there was this boy... he was a close friend of mine, but one day, he had to leave for war, and... and he promised he'd come back..." Italy could feel hot tears streaming down his face.
"He had the most beautiful eyes, the brightest shade of blue. He always wore a silly hat that covered his short, blonde hair. He also-"
He was cut off by a slight sniffling noise and he soon heard faint crying. "L-Ludwig? What's wrong?" Italy raised his eyebrows with concern.
"It's nothing." Germany sniffed, looking away out of embarrassment. "I just realized something..."
Italy's eyes welled up with more tears as he waited for an answer.
"I'm home."
