what does the future hold?

chapter one

I turn and look at the horizon from my cell and brush the tear dangling from my eye. I hop onto my bunk and lay down crying even more now. How could I end up here a prison for unwanted  kids, but the thing is I'm not unwanted my parents died in a car accident, I thought they were just driving slow at the time of course that's because I was 14 at the time and now I'm 17 and now I know what really happened.

Flashback

They were driving down the road, windy rainy cold dark and scared. My dad was driving at the time while my mom sat back there in the back holding Molly my sister who was crying and up set she's the only one that lived. My mom wiped the tear from her eye and kissed her on the head and covered her up as they hit a bump. "Johnny is everything okay'? He dint answer and the car stopped, "Johnny Hun why are we stopping in everything okay"? Still he dint answer. She laid Molly down in her car seat and opened the door and stepped out onto the cold dark street, she dint see the truck or the van heading for her. She also dint know my dad had a heart attack or that Molly was sitting back there crying and throwing up. She felt a bang and then fell over onto the cold road dying.

I wiped the tears away and reached for my necklace and just felt neck, that's right the guards took it from me for special reasons. I cried even more that was the last thing they gave me it had a cat and a dog on it holding hands and on the back it said, " Never ignore a person who loves you, cares for you, and misses you, because one day you might wake up and realize you lost the moons while counting the stars".  I repeated the words out loud to my self and smiled and closed my eyes. I was dreaming of a cloud when something banged against my cell. I looked up and seen a guard standing by my door smiling, I always liked this guard his name is Johnny just like my fathers. I got off the bunk and walked toward the cell slowly asking questions, "Molly is she okay?, what's wrong'? He smiled and opened the door, "Come along it's okay Moly's fine", "Still at the same house"? "Still at the same house, come meet your new family". I walked out onto the cold floor well It may have been cold I don't know I had shoes on.

"My new family"? "Yes dear", "More than one"! "Yes a brother mother and father and a baby boy on the way"! "Oh thank goodness I hate being the only child, can Molly come"? "No Hun sorry afraid not". I looked down and cried again, He touched my arm, "she is safer where she is now come on dear", I walked and followed him. This is my first 2nd family since my parents died. I turned to the left and he typed in the code leading me out side where a women with brown hair blue eyed, a man with red hair green eyes, and a older brother about my age blonde hair and soft brown eyes. "Hello Fern". The woman walked toward me and hugged me she did have a baby bump. "So fern this is Jeremy and roger", they all smiled at me and the youngest boy Jeremy lead me to the car, "Hey Fern I'm Jeremy". I dint talk, "My necklace"? I ran back to Johnny, "Necklace where is it"? "Oh here", he pulled the blue chain out of his pocket and handed me it, I hugged it close and smiled and hugged him one more time, "I will never forget you" HE smiled and kissed me and walked away. I got in the car and looked as we pulled out and headed toward some where perfect.

While we rode up the hill Jeremy un buckled and reached up and turned on the radio. I tapped my foot to the music and he looked at me, "You like this"? "Never heard it but sounds cool", I smiled as he returned the smile, "It's we cant stop  by Miley Cyrus", I nod as trying to understand. Who is Miley Cyrus? I looked out the window as soft sprinkles that were clear fell from the sky. I must have looked confused because Jeremy laughed, "Have you not ever seen rain'? "No I haven't been out side in like I don't know 2 years". He frowned, "Hey how about if it's stops raining we shoot some hoops"? "I don't know that sounds dangerous"?

He smiled, "No all you have to do is shoot a ball into the hoop not dangerous just don't stand under the net"! I smiled as he looked at his dad, "Sorry son looks like this is going to be here when for a while until night time, you'll could play on the Wii or X box"? "Oh yea we still have those"? His mom cut him off as he was about to answer his question, "So Fern how old are you"? I looked at his mom, "17", "I love that name", "Thank you"! "Well your welcome"! I look out the window as something blue flashes across the sky. "Ah". I scoot away from the window and elbow Jeremy in the stomach, "Oh m gosh sorry". He pats me on the back, "It's okay just lighting wont hurt you well in less you stand right in the middle of it", I smile and scoot back over to my side and rest my head against the window. I look out and something catches on fire near the car, "Oh wow", "Dangerous storm kiddos get out of the car your moms already in'. I looked in the front seat the mom was gone he was right.

I opened the back door and got out the soft white lines falling onto my head. They felt so cool like ice but not the ones we get in prison or jail or whatever you call it, The ice was always warm there but this was like cool ice. I lifted up my head and stuck out my tongue tasting the sweet stuff. I swallowed a mouth full and smiled, "This is just like ice"! I twirled around in the rain and splashed in a puddle and fell into it. Jeremy rushed to m side and helped me up, "U okay"? "Of course this day couldn't get any worse'"! I

 

I spun around one more time before he grabbed my hand and lead me inside and went up stairs, "Shut the door". I turned around and shut the door and locked it and went to find mom and dad, "Hey kiddo in here", I turned around and walked into a tiny area where a fridge and a stove was with a table right square in the middle of it. "Hey mom, hey dad is it okay if I call you that"? "Why of course sugar call us anything you want, you want a brownie"? "Sure", I sat down at the table and she handed me a brownie and milk, "Um sorry allergic to milk",

"Oh no I'm sorry I should have asked forgive me please"? "its alright".

 

I Took a bit of my brownie so good, "Thank you", "Your very welcome so would you like a sprite water"? "Sprite please", "Here you go". I took the sprite and took a long sip and sat it down when Jeremy came down stairs, "MOM DAD FERN A TERRIBLE STORM IS HEADING TOWARD OUR AREA"!  I sat down my sprite and ate the last bit of m brownie. "What kind of storm'? "Fern don't worry we are safe here". She came and hugged me but I dint hug back, "WHAT STORM"? Jeremy looked at me and came and took my hand, "A hurricane and a tornado and a flooding was reported down town we need to get some where safe". I could see the panic look on their faces, "Basement now'! I followed them down the stairs where water was already coming up the steps, "I cant swim'? I walked down the stairs and would have went in the water and drowned right then if Jeremy dint catch me which he did. "Thanks so much", he took my hand and led my in the basement where everything was flooded it came up to our neck well mine at least they were 6 feet tall and I was 4 foot 3, they must be basketball players. They lead me to a corner where we stood floating in the waters, "I hope my sisters okay oh no my sister"? I headed to the stairs when they caught me, "You cant go too dangerous pumpkin, Jeremy talk to her", She slung me over to him who caught me letting me float deeper to the bottom, so deep making m fingers touch the wet ground, He pulled me up I swallowed up a bunch of water.
