Sitting across from Harry was so awkward and uncomfortable to be honest. I didn’t know how to talk to him about Nicole or even just anything in general.
“What’s her full name?” Harry suddenly asks and I can’t help but smile, I love my daughter so much and everything about her makes me smile.
“Nicole Marie Fife,” I tell him and he smiles to himself.
“Where’d you get Nicole from?” he asks, pushing his food around a little on his plate before actually placing it in his mouth.
“It’s her godmother’s middle name,” I wasn’t sure if Harry remembered Chelsea but maybe he did.
“Who is...?” he questions.
“Chelsea, remember her?” I ask, looking up at him for a second before back down to my plate.
“I do, you guys are still as close as before?” he asks, smiling widely for an unknown reason to me.
“Very close,” I smile at the thought of my best friend, “She’s pregnant,” I tell him suddenly and he nearly chokes on the food in his mouth causing me to laugh.
If Harry was going to be around me and my – our – daughter he would be around Chelsea too so he might as well know she’s going to have a baby.
“How far along is she?” he asks when he finally stops coughing.
“Around three months,” I tell him, “She’s living with me because her parents kicked her out,” I add on and he nods.
“You’re going to have a busy house soon,” he chuckles and I nod.
“It’s going fast,” I agree.
“Tell me more about Nikki,” Harry says and I nod, thinking of what all to say.
“Well, she was on time and perfectly healthy, she reached her milestones at the right times, her first word was mama like most kids, her birthday is September 17th,” I continue on with small details and Harry’s smile grows wider and wider the whole time.
I was honestly really glad he seemed interested in his daughter because I didn’t really think he would be as interested as he is. The proud smile on his face made it seem like he was there for it all and hadn’t missed any of it, he would really be a good father to her but was that what I wanted him to be to her?
The waitress taking Harry’s order for our deserts took me out of my thoughts.
“So, what is my role in her life?” Harry asks once the waitress walks off, he put air quotes around role.
What is he going to be? What are we going to be? “I think for the time being you can be one of my close friends or something,” I suggest and he nods, his eyes showing he was a little hurt, “I’m sorry but I don’t want her to suddenly know and what not, we’ll tell her one day,” I explain and he nods, a smile on his face.

It was 2 when I got home and the house was unusually quiet so I went to find Chelsea who was watching TV on the couch so I joined her.
“Where’s Nikki?” I ask, crossing my legs on the cushion.
“She’s taking a nap,” she informs me and turns around, mimicking my position, “How’d it go?” she asks, her face showing not much emotion probably because she didn’t know what emotion to feel yet.
“We talked about Nikki, I told him all of these things about her and he was actually interested and he was smiling so hard just to hear about his daughter,” I smile lightly at the picture in my head of Harry beaming at me from across the table, “He knows you live with me and that you’re pregnant but other than you and Nikki, we didn’t talk about much of anything else,” I shrug.
“So, what is he going to be to her?” she asks and I think for a minute.
“I told him that for the time being he can be like my best friend or something and eventually, she’ll know,” I tell her and she nods in approval.
The past two days were so stressful. I had to tell Harry about Nicole and now he was going to be a part of her life all of a sudden…
