KaTie. A simple name for a simple girl.
I was never the complicated type since my life has always been an open book -whether I wanted it or not - my dad left my mom when I was 6 and my brother was 13. I mean, he didn't really leave. They got a divorce and he moved away to another town, got remarried and has his own family. Yes, he tries to reach out but I want absolutely nothing to do with him.
We little in a small town called Tommer [tawmer] where there is about 5000 people. We are all one close community and I love it.
I got to TommerVille High School were I am in the sciences. My best friend - Adeline Benson is in the math program.
I'm a pretty calm person, until you get me fired up. You don't wanna argue with me! I love a good debate. In my spare time I dance. And not just dance, I pour my heart and soul into ballet. It's such a refined form of art, it's almost impossible to master.
Today is the first day of second semester. I wake up extra early to shower, then straighten my hair, put in into a ponytail and even put a little makeup on - which is pretty rare for me. I pick out dark wash jeans and a long sleeve burgundy shirt. I slip on some Vans and I'm good to go.
I get to school a little early so there won't be a huge rush to get to all my classes. When I get my schedule, I'm a but disappointed - Adeline and I only have two classes together. First period I have Chemistry, then I've got French. After lunch I've got Bio and after that I've got English. Doesn't sound like an easy semester.
Once the bell rings we each go to class. Once I enter the chemistry lab, I take a seat in the middle row. I thought long and hard about it and I figured it gives an impression that I care, but I'm not a nerd. I don't need to give people another reason to make fun of me.
The seat beside me stays empty throughout most of the period which is kind of upsetting. I guess I still am that freak that no one wants to do beside. Suddenly, the door bursts open, and in walks Tyler Smith - the star player of our baseball team and the insanely hot jock who sat behind me in my grade 9 math class. Of course, he was dating Meredith Grant aka Satan - the gorgeous "smart" queen B of our grade. Every boy bowed down to her and her fake little smile.
"Ahh. And you must be Mr. Smith" Mr Sawick - the chemistry teacher says. Tyler nods his head, without giving a single care in the world.
"You can take your seat" Mr Sawick says and turns back around to the periodic table. Tyler scans the room. There are three seats available - the one beside Ivan (the pothead), Stephanie (the smelly girl) or me (the anti-social kid with daddy issues). Of course, what kind of story would this be if he didn't chose to sit beside me?
By the end of class, I was repulsed with Tyler. He is selfish, obnoxious and rude let alone loud and annoying.
I met Adeline in the French classroom and I couldn't wait to tell her about everything.
"Tyler is so obnoxious, rude and I can't stand him. And, the worst part is that these are our permanent seats for the rest of the semester. It's ridiculous! This is absolutely unacceptable and I can't concentrate with someone constantly talking and I'm going to fail high school and then I'm never going to get into medical school and I'm going to be a bum living on the street. How does that sound?" I rant
"Well, you can always live in my basement, with my husband in my mansion and while I'm at work being a family physician in my own clinic, you can clean the house and take care of my dog." Adeline laughs. We've always joked around about stuff like that.
After lunch, Adeline and I parted ways. I went to biology and she went to calculus. I ended up coming in late, because I went to the wrong classroom so when I walked into my biology classroom, there was only one seat left, and it was next to Kevin Anderson - the captain of the track team. The cute, flirtatious and not to mention smart kid since he was in the science program.
I sit down and he introduces himself right away.
"Hey, my name is Kevin"
"Hi, I'm KaTie. It's nice to meet you Kevin" I answer. Before Kevin can answer me, Ms Barba, the biology teacher starts talking. We were given the course outline and we did a little diagnostic. Once the bell rings, I pack up my stuff, and leave the classroom. Just as I'm about to leave, Kevin runs up to me and hands me a piece of paper, smiles and walks away. I slip the paper into my pocket and head to the locker which Adeline, drop my text books off and head to English.
After school ends, Adeline and I head to Brain Power, where we both tutor French, since we both went to the same French Immersion elementary school.
"KaTie, since it's the start of a new semester, you've got some new students. The first one being Meredith Grant, the second one being Kylie Caruso, Ryan Blum and the last one is Tyler Smith. I made sure I got people from your school, so you've got a closer relationship with each one of them" Karine, my employer says.
"Wait, what was that last one" I ask, in disbelief.
"Tyler Smith" Karine answer as someone walks into my classroom.
"Hi, I'm Meredith Grant, here for my French lesson" Meredith comes in and gives me the fakest smile I've ever seen him. After that horrible hour with the dumb b*tch, I was done and in no mood to continue tutoring. When Kylie came, I was in a grumpy mood, but once she left, I was in a much better mood. I met Kylie in grade nine, we had second semester geography together and she is so sweet. After Kylie, I had Ryan who is a calm kid, and easy to work with. After that hour was up, I was dreading the next person.
In walks Tyler Smith, with his headphones in and his music on full blast. I honestly don't get him, he comes here to learn, but with an attitude like that it's impossible for him to retain anything.
After a brutal hour of French conversation, the day was finally over.
Adeline and I go to Starbucks, and discuss the day, it's kind of a ritual we have after every day that we tutor. She tells me about her four students, one of them being a guy she's had a crush on for a few years - Jason HalPort. Luckily, today we didn't have homework, Adeline gave me a ride home. I go upstairs to my room and a piece of paper falls out of my pocket. Te anticipation is killing me.
I uncrumple the piece of paper and it says
KaTie, you're cute!

I am suddenly filled with a warm fuzzy feeling inside. No one has ever liked me. Honestly, it feels really great. I text a picture to Adeline saying that this is from Kevin, the guy I told her about earlier and she told me to text him. Since Adeline is good with impulsive judgement, I take her advice and text him. He answers me almost right away.
hey Kevin, its KaTie
hey KaTie, what's up??
haha, nothing, u? just going over some of the work we did today. u? wow, i even sound like a freak over text
cool, playing cod ;)
aha cool
After an awkward beginning, a real conversation took off. We talked about our career plans, school and a lot of random little things. Our conversation ended with a oh crap, it's 2am, we have school tomorrow! gn Kevin and a gn KaTie.
I couldn't wait to tell Adeline about him!
