George Bernard Shaw once wrote, “It is a curious sensation, the sort of pain that goes mercifully beyond our powers of feeling. When your heart is broken, your boats are burned-nothing matters anymore. It is the end of happiness and the beginning of peace.”
“The weather forecast in Tree Hill for today is- a sunny day with slight chances of rainfall by night, humidity levels..” Haley was not in the mood for this. “Turn off the radio Chris. You know how much I miss Nathan.”
“Haley, will you think for a second how great things are going for you? And hey, Chris Keller’s always available for another kiss,” Chris joked, only to be elbowed by Haley. It was their second week on the music tour Haley had left Tree Hill for. Things had been rough between Haley and her husband Nathan. He told her if she left, it was over between them. Haley had left anyway and she had begun to think it was the biggest mistake of her life. Music made her happy, but Nathan was her life.
It’s my first day in Tree Hill High. Well, I didn’t want to move here in the first place, and everything seems rather dull. I wonder if it’s to do with the recent deaths of two people in the very hallways I am walking through now. I walk into class and find a seat. Then the hottest guy I have ever seen walks in and takes a seat in front of me. They always told me I was cute in my old school. I decide to give it a shot. I pass him a chit. Four words. ‘Meet me at lunch.’
He turns around and flashes me a smile. I think I just died.
“Nathan Scott. Will you care to tell us why you are always LATE?” “Eew, ugly teacher alert,” I whisper. People giggle.
“Basketball practice,” is his nonchalant reply.
“Well Lucas was well on time,” she indicates to a cute looking blonde guy who is sitting on the other side of class, exchanging looks with a pretty brunette who I know is Brooke Davis, leader of the cheerleading squad.
The sound of the lunch bell snaps me out of my daydream.
I rush out of class and bump into Nathan. My books spill out of my Giordano backpack.
“Oh my god, I am so sorry,” he hurries to pick them all up.
“No problem,” I put on my flirt mode, “You’ll never know if I did that on purpose, will you?”
The smile reaches to his eyes. He puts out his hand, “I’m Nathan Scott, captain of the Ravens basketball team.”
“Sera Stone. And I am loving those abs of yours.” I don’t even know if he has a girlfriend, but well, hell.
He laughs. “Nice to meet you Sera, you must be new here. I never miss a hot body.”
Score.
“So Nathan, I was wondering if you could…”
Before I can finish, a good-looking African-American wearing a basketball jersey walks up and says, “Hey Nate, heard from Haley lately?”
Nathan shakes his head dejectedly.
“Chill out man. Just give her some time, I’m sure she’ll come around. She’s yo wife after all, ain’t she?”
“WIFE?” I make an unsuccessful attempt to hide the astonishment in my voice.
“No, not anymore,” Nathan puts his arm around me, “Hey, why don’t you come over tonight. I can show you around town and besides, I’d love to get to know someone new.”
So I just hooked myself a hottie. Yay. I finish my lunch and walk toward my locker. The one next to mine is open and I swear I have never seen a more glamorous locker in my life. Brooke Davis, most popular girl in the Senior Year, stands behind it, teary-eyed.
