"I don't know if I can ever truly forgive you, Hermione." Ginny said approaching the girl who use to like a sister to her. Hermione looked up from the spell she was reading that would repel angry ghosts. Ginny's red nose and eyes proved that she was still heartbroken over the whole thing.
"Ginny, Harry and I never meant to hurt anyone. Perhaps if we had been honest with ourselves a long time ago... I don't know. The truth is I really didn't understand what I felt for him was love other than friendship until we were alone without Ron or anyone." Hermione shrugged not knowing what else to say to the still weepy - eyed girl.
"I still love him, Hermione." Ginny said with a slight hiccup in her voice. Hermione nodded.
"I understand. You probably realized that your feelings were stronger than you thought during the war. Although, I had heard you were seeing Dean last year." Hermione questioned looking up at Ginny. Once again, Ginny frowned slightly as if this was news to her.
"Nothing serious." Ginny finally said off-handedly. Hermione bit her lip. "It doesn't matter." Ginny assured her. "I would like to try to be friends, Hermione. I missed you when you were gone last year and while your memories were locked away." Ginny said.
"I would like that, too, Ginny. I want you to understand that Harry nor I want to hurt you, but we are together now and are planning on a future." Hermione said. Ginny's bottom lip seemed to quiver as if she were going to start crying, but she nodded instead.
"So, what is the verdict about the strange message in the prefects' bath chamber?" Ginny asked leaning on the library table. Hermione decided that Ginny was indeed going to try to be friends.
Just then, Harry, Luna, Neville and Ron slid into the other seats at the table. Hermione snuck a look at Ron and them Harry. Harry winked and gave a little shrug. For the first time in days, Hermione let out a deep sigh.
"So, McGonagall just informed me that the Aurors came up with ziltch." Harry informed the group.
"So, what does that mean?" Neville asked. Harry sent a proud look to Luna.
"It means that after hearing Luna's idea about Professor Ormus being a vampire, which McGonagall said was ridiculous, she is definitely considering letting him go in and do a spell where he can smell the blood to see if it is a chicken or a human. Vampires can smell different blood types and sometimes whose blood it belongs to. If someone is just playing a bad prank, then they will be caught. If a Death Eater has broke into the castle, we could find them." Harry said.
"Vampires, Potter? Really?" Draco said as he walked by shaking his head.
"I have to send a letter to George about not being able to help him during the holidays. I will be taking my Auror's exams. Harry? Will you help me?" Ron said.
"Yeah, go get your letter posted. I will go over the information with you in the common room." Harry promised. Ron looked excited and hopeful. He left. Neville said something about needing to study for his potions test the next day and left. Ginny and Luna left together.
Harry looked across the table at Hermione. She smiled at him, their love for one another evident in their eyes.
"So, Ginny is talking to you now?" Harry asked. Hermione shrugged.
"I still think she is acting weird. Maybe the war has affected her more than anyone let on. She told me that she was still hurt, but she wanted to be friends. What about Ron?" Hermione asked him.
"Same thing. He said that he was okay with it after thinking about it. He is more upset because he feels like we are not as close after the war. He thinks you no longer trust him. I told him that this year is different because we don't have Voldemort trying to kill us. Do you think if we hadn't had all of the Voldemort things happen we would have had a normal seven years here at Hogwarts?" Harry asked getting up from his seat and pulling Hermione to her feet. She grinned and let him pull her into the restricted section and then into his arms when they were hidden from view.
