Fireworks boomed loudly across the endless black sky, colors exploding everywhere. The soft nighttime noises filled the air. His strong arms rested loosely around her petite body. She raised her head faintly, and kissed him delicately on the lips. The picture faded and a content sigh filled the shadowy theatre.
Beside me sat my best friend, Carrie Lull. Her fragile blond hair had looked grey in the dim lighting of the undersized theatre room. Behind her immense 3D glasses, her gallant brown eyes had been addicted to the huge screen, watching every name in the credits scroll up. The lights turned on, and after our temporary blindness from the sudden change in light, we decided it was finally time to leave. After several minutes of frustrating searching, we managed to find my midnight blue ford, nicknamed "midnight" in the parking lot. We opened our doors and hopped into it. "Hey Katrina…"Carrie began. "I told you to call me Kat, Carrie."I teased at her. "Well if I call you Kat, you have to call me Car!"She protested. I had rolled my eyes at her. She had always been so determined to get what she wanted. "You watch," she said in her signature determination voice. "It’s going to catch on!" "Anyways, you were saying?"I had reminded her. "Oh, right! I was wondering if maybe, since you’re sleeping over, we could go to Migiri’s or something?" her voice was high when she asked, in a hopeful kind of way. "Uh, I don’t know Car-." "HA! You said it! You called me Car! I knew it would catch on!"She had interrupted in a delighted voice. "As I was saying before I was rudely interrupted," I said in a foul voice. "I’ve heard of their prices, and I’m not really in the mood to empty my wallet." "Fine you little party pooper. Just for the record, it isn’t that expensive, and the food is better than my mom’s broccoli stew." Carrie teased at me.
The rest of our ride had been silent, excluding the intense hip-hop music playing out from the radio. When we finally parked Midnight in Carrie’s driveway, it was 11 o’clock. We strolled in through the door of her Victorian style home and hopped up the carpeted stairs to her small room. We got onto her brand new laptop, which still smelled like Future Shop, and I quickly signed into my msn and facebook. I had the usual amount of emails, 57, mostly about the fresh gossip buzzing through the ears of Redknife High. As I whizzed through the emails, I came to one from my chemistry teacher. I used the little grey mouse pad on the laptop to scroll down the email. It was just a reminder that I have a stupid chemistry test tomorrow. "Crap." I muttered under my breath. "Crap what? What happened?" asked Carrie, sounding a bit concerned. "Just read an email reminding me about my chemistry test tomorrow." I muttered through gritted teeth. I had always hated tests, a lot. "Don’t worry Kat, you are fine in chemistry, I can help you study!" Carrie suggested enthusiastically. I glanced at the time on the bottom of the small computer screen. It read eleven forty-five. "We should get to sleep." Carrie suggested. "I agree."
As soon as my small head hit the feathery pillow, I was out like a light. My vision was blurry, and everything was black and white. I was in a small apartment bedroom, with a nice carpeted floor, and huge king size bed. A bitter draft came through the small crack on the window. I glanced down at my petite body, only to realize my shirt had a huge gash down the side, as if some furious mountain lion had a craving for human ribs. ‘Where am I anyways?’ I thought. My thoughts diverted when I heard the sound of a door creak. Someone was entering the room. A shadowy black figure closed the door behind him, and sat down beside me. He moved slowly as he locked eyes with me. His hair was like a pitch black hole, swallowing all the air in my lungs. He slipped off his shirt and tossed it on the floor of the room to reveal a six-pack accompanied by long, lean muscles down his arms. As he slowly leaned towards me, knocking me backwards, my vision started to blur again, and I woke up to the sound of Carrie snoring. It was only a dream.
The next time I awoke was to silence. The Lull household was as silent as the night before Christmas. Right up until music from Carrie’s iPod played piercingly. The sunlight was spilling through the blinds into the small yellow room. Like sand spilling through the cracks between my fingers. Carrie lay still asleep beside me. I decided it would be a great idea to hit her in the head with a hardcover book. She had to wake up eventually. "Wake up!" I barked into her ear. "Shut up!" she hollered back. I fake cried to get the guilt to her head. "Okay, okay relax! I was kidding. Geeze."Car said cheerfully, suddenly awake. "Come on! We’re going to be late for school! I have a test today!" I bothered. We rushed our morning routines and I floored it to school.
Chemistry was my first class of the day. I walked into the chemistry room with no confidence whatsoever, and sat in my front of the room assigned seat. The spot beside me was empty. "Okay people," my chemistry teacher Mr.Boig began "Today we are welcoming a new student to our class." ‘A new student when there’s only one week of school left’. I thought to myself. "Please send a warm welcome to Cam Revvy." Several whistles rose from the girls in the class. The loudest whistle came from the most popular, and slutty, girl in school, Tammy Dawn. She flipped her blond hair in a flirty way, but Cam paid no attention to her at all. I silently laughed at her. It was funny and rare when she didn’t get what she wanted. "Cam, please take a seat there next to Katrina." ‘Gee, thanks Mr.Boig.’ I contemplated. This time a cluster of disappointed sighs filled the room. I decided to be nice and greet him. "Hey" I yapped while trying not to make eye contact. He gave me a quick head to toe look-over as if I was going to pull a knife to him, and nodded his head. "Hey." He said in a flirty voice. Once again, Mr.Boig spoke in a depressing tone "Since we have the arrival of our new student today, the test will be moved to Wednesday, don’t forget to study." Then, not thinking of, well actually, just not thinking, I blurted out "YES!" at the top of my lungs. My face turned a bright red and I heard Cam chuckle to himself quietly. I sat in complete and utter silence for when Mr.Boig was lecturing us on how studying is very helpful and important and blah, blah, blah. My eyes began to lock, and then snapped right back open again when I heard Tammy’s squeaky voice on the other side of the classroom ask "So Cam," ‘This couldn’t be good…’ I thought. "Do you like personality or do you just go straight for looks?" ‘I was right; this wasn’t going to go down well.’ I thought again."I’m sorry Tammy, but what does this have to do with chemistry?" Mr.Boig questioned her. "Absolutely nothing I just wanted to know." She replied with her usual attitude and her signature smirk. "Well, if you really have to know," Cam began, as I started doodling in my textbook. "I like brown hair, and green eyes. Like her." The entire chemistry room went silent. I glanced at Cam from the corner of my eye and saw his finger, pointed at me. "Her?" Tammy chuckled hysterically from her seat. "Well I can see you don’t focus on looks." I shot her my best devilish glare. It was bad enough I had to be in a class with her. Plus get insulted every class. One of my best friends, Ray decided to comment. His sweet, sympathetic voice spoke out into the stillness and proposed; "I happen to think Cam has great taste."Once again, my face was neon red. The bell rang, signaling the end of class. I sprung from my desk and fled the room. Carrie caught me on the way out. "Kat and Cam sitting in a tree!" she sang. "Don’t start." "Kat you should go out with him!" At that precise moment, is when Cam stepped out of the room.
