Chapter 2

"So where did you meet him?" Kylie asks me the next day when she came over to visit me.

I search the wardrobe that Katie and I share for something to wear tonight. Everything I own was on the left side while my sister's things were on the right. I wasn't quite sure what I was going to wear even though I had plenty of time to choose something.

"I met him at the park," I tell her. "He ran me over with his skateboard."

"Seriously? You're going on a date with a guy who practically ran you over? I would have yelled at him for doing that. I'm guess you didn't yell at him?"

I turn away from the wardrobe and walk over to where Kylie was sitting on my bed. Katie was sitting on hers. "Why would I yell at him? It was an accident." I sit cross-legged on my bed.

"How do you know if it was an accident?" Katie says. "He could have done it on purpose. Guys will say anything at use as a pick up line."

"Yeah, he might have seen you from the distance," Kylie agreed with my sister. "And when he spotted you he said to himself, 'Mmm, she seems perfect to run over with my skateboard and then use one hell of a good pick-up line to make her fell in love with me."

I roll my eyes. "You guys are so unbelievable."

I stood up and went back to the wardrobe. I still don't know what I was going to wear. Maybe I should go down to the mall and pick up something there.

"I have nothing to wear," I say, closing the closet door, turning to my friend and sister. "Do you guys want to come to the mall with me to find something to wear for tonight?"

"Riley, relax," my sister says. "You're just going to his house for dinner. You aren't going on a date to some fancy restaurant where you have to dress up. Wear something you already have. Besides, if you don't want Mum and Dad knowing about Joshua just yet, then I suggest you wear something you already have, otherwise they will be suspicious."

"How will they be suspicious?"

Katie bit her lip as she sat there thinking about something. "Wait, I have a dress that you might like. You can borrow it."

She stood up, and hops over to the wardrobe with the crutches. She looks through her side and pulls out a baby blue dress with think straps over the shoulders. The front of it was a V neck. I reach out and touch the material. Katie wore it for her twenty-first birthday a couple of months ago. She looks amazing in it. I had always pictured myself wearing it.

"You're kidding me." I glance up at my sister. "You're letting me wear this?"

Katie smiles as she nods her head. "Put it on."

I did. I stand in front of the wardrobe to capture a glance of myself in the dress. My reflection shows how perfect I looked in it. The colour of the dress really brought out the blue in my eyes. Joshua was sure going to like me in this dress.

"Wow," was all I could say.

"That dress looks completely perfect on you," Kylie says.

"Thank you, Katie." I turn to my sister and hug her.

"You're welcome," she replies.

I got out of the dress and went to take a shower. I slip the dress back on.

It was early and I had plenty of time before I had to meet Joshua. I quickly came up with an excuse in my head to tell my parents. Kylie left the house with me, helping me lie to my parents. I don't like to lie to them, and I'm not much of a liar, but I had to lie so I could go meet Joshua. My parents are really strict of who we could date and since what happened to Katie, they were cautious on who my sister and I could date. They weren't strict on who Lucas could date, but I guess it's because he was a guy and they didn't worry about him as much. Before Katie and I are even allowed to date we had to let them meet the guy first. If they didn't like them then we couldn't date them.
