That smell, the awful smell of the ocean. I always hated it, some how it never fails to bring back the terrible memories of the pig that they called man, or the man I was forced to call 'father'. What does that word even mean 'father', to me it's an insult. I will never have my children call me that nor anybody else. I start to come back to reality as the bumps of the wagon I'm sitting in get worse and the cold icy winter wind blows in my face, it stings like knives. Why was I even in this wagon, i can't remember why I'm here. Then the wagon comes to a stop pulling me toward the front and I almost fall but was able to catch my self.
"Lucas hurry up" I hear a female voice call to me, then I remember I was heading to a ship to sail to the new world or our new home, as most people called it in my town, well I can't really call it that anymore 'my town'
"Alright" I say grabbing my bag filled with my belongings and jumping out of the horribly uncomfortable wagon. The bag was light, I couldn't take much on ship, there were already too many things going on board. I look to the female who called my name, I forgot who she was when The salty smell of the ocean reminded me of that pig but It was only my sister Elizabeth but some how she almost felt more like a mother, even though we were the same age. She start running to the ship we were supposed be at, I'm having difficulty running with her and start to lose her in the crowds of people waiting to bored the ship
"Liz wait for me!" I try to yell but the sound for the people around me block it out
"LIZ?" I yell getting more worried wondering where she is. I run faster but in result I crash straight into someone, I fall towards the open water. But right before I hit the freezing cold sea, Liz grabs hand and pulls me back up I took notice that her hand felt ice cold. As soon as I get the chance I pull away from her grasp, her hand to felt like pins and needles piercing my skin
"my god what's wrong with your hand Liz" I question her
"what do you mean" she tells me like nothing is wrong.
"it feels like ice"I tell her, trying to get her to understand what I was saying
"hurry the ship is about to leave" she says ignoring everything I said
"Liz what if your sick!" I yell to her but she is already running back to ship and I follow her lead. We arrived at the long skinny board connecting the dock to the deck of the ship, Liz sprints to the giant ship in front of as if her life depended on it. I just look and stare but slowly walk up, when I finial take my first step onto the ship I can't help but think of my father, and this time saying that, word doesn't bother me
"Lucas, we're finally going to have a home." I hear Elizabeth say in a cheerful voice as she pulls me into a warm embrace, and pauses, way longer then I wanted, then pulls away to look at me.
"yea" I tell her trying to sound as cheerful as she is but of course she noticed disappointment in the tone I spoke in. She looks me in the eye, I look back and put a fake smile on
"I know you're scared but you have to trust me, this is a chance of a new life, and maybe if we get lucky their are some really beautiful woman there" I chuckle at her remark.
"yea, but you do have to remember we're broke, how are we going to live" I say into her shoulder
" don't worry I'll find you a very wealthy wife and we can share the money that comes along with her." She's tying to lift my spirits, "I have I surprise for you."
"Really?" She nods her head to confirm her statement.
"you might not need that rich wife." I smile and she pulls something out of her satchel, it's a small bag full of coins.
"how did you get that!?" I ask eager to know.
"They said every person that leaves gets a certain amount of money, they are paying us to leave, how astonishing is that? And that also means-" she pulls another small bag out "you get just as much as everyone else." My smile is so wide my cheeks start to hurt.
"I can't believe it!" She smiles, hands me the bag, and tells me that she's going to talk to the captain. That's really took my mind off of him, but not for long, then remembered when I ran from him.

*flashback*
"LUCAS!?" I hear my father in the distance, his foot steps get louder and louder, every step of his terrifies me. I can feel my hands shaking rapidly, I try to run, but my feet are in so much pain I can not run fast enough. its almost impossible to get away with the wind blowing against me, and with the wind, the red and yellow leaves fall past me. Then I smell it, the salty ocean up ahead of me
"Open water" I whisper to my self, I run towards the sea, and when I get to the very edge of what seemed like the end of all the pain that I've been through. I slowly lean forward not caring if the water was freezing, because it felt like my safe place. I allowed myself to fall, the feeling I was getting was so amazing I could hardly Describe it. Then everything falls apart as I feel a strong grip grab on to my shirt and pull me back to the horrid discord of reality
*end of flashback*

"Are you alright Lucas?" I look up to see a man sitting on a box in front of me, he was captivating, he looks like a king, with his black beard and hair. he looked healthy as he was muscular, he also wore a white clean shirt, brown pants and long boots that almost went to his knees. Maybe he's the captain, I think to my self
"What?" I say not paying attention to what he said
"Are you doing good, you look sick, is it the shaking of the ship? because you will get use to it." He tells me in a deep worried voice
"No I'm just, thinking about. . . things" I say unsure, not knowing if I should tell him what I was going on in my head, then silence soon falls apon us.
"Are you the captain?" I ask breaking the awkward silence
"No, I'm his brother. I met your sister and if you were wondering that's how I knew your name" this is when I take notice of his accent I never heard it before, it sounded slow.
"I'm having trouble figuring out your accent" I tell him being completely honest
"Oh, I live where your going, 'the new world' as your folk call it, but people tell me my accent is Indian" I give him a strange confused look before I say
"It doesn't sound anything like an Indian accent." I sound a little mad
"Yea but that's what the big man called my people, anyways I have to go hall more things aboard, so I'll speak to you later" he tells me, but before he leaves I ask him for his name.
"John, well it was nice talking to. I have to go now." He then walks off leaving me alone with my thoughts
I was wondering where my sister was and I was going to look for her then I start to feel a sharp pain in my back and neck, and I finger out I was slouching the entire time. I raise my arms and stretch my back and small amount of pain leaves my body, it felt good to stretch then I start turning my head in large slow circles while rubbing my neck. it's doesn't really help but it was better then nothing. I stop, stand up and slowing making my way to the sleeping quarters of the ship, I didn't really care what room I went in, I just picked a random one and allowed my self to fall on a bed it wasn't as comfortable as I hoped but it'll make do. I start to hear humming and what sounded like a woman I didn't care even, though I should. 'get up' I tell in my body, but it's refusing to cooperate 'am I paralyzed' I question but I have feeling that this is not paralysis.
"It's ok, your not paralyzed, your body was tired. So I let it sleep." I never heard that voice before, her voice was deep but so calming, relaxing and soft. But the words that came out were so terrifying, I start to fear for my life but I don't do anything about because somehow I also feel relaxed. I want to get up but I'm stopping my self from doing so, in a panic I yell for Liz, and she walks in calmly eating an apple. I then have control over my body again, I sit strange up and look around the small room then race to the door, I see no other woman then my sister
"What? Is something the matter?" she questions and gives me a worried yet strange look
"Was there a woman here" I ask her in a panicking tone
"Uhh... No but you might be talking about the nurse, she's the only other woman one the ship. Other then me of course." she explains.
