"Wake up! Wake up!" James Bond whispered. He looked at the lifeless face of the girl laying in front of him. Vesper Lynd. "I'm the money." She had wittily said and now that very money had gotten her killed.

Tears threatened to spill out of his intense blue eyes as James continued the panicked routine. Push on the chest, breathe into the mouth, push on the chest, breathe into the mouth. It had to work; he couldn't lose the person he loved most. She was his equal, almost like a partner but so much more. Why did she have to get herself into this? Why had she betrayed him? Most of all, why had she killed herself? They could've worked this out, he could've helped her. He was angry and hurt, yes but love would cover all that.
Feeling utterly helpless, James kissed her.  The fact she didn't kiss back seemed to pierce his heart.  Falling, back onto the edge of the fallen building, he stared at Vesper.  His breaths came in short gasps as he watched for any sign of movement.  Suddenly, she twitched.  James leaned forward and touched her face gently.  Her dark eyes opened and she coughed.  Immediately, James was on his knees helping her onto her side.  A stream of filthy water poured from her mouth as she managed to regurgitate that which had almost taken her life. Leaning back onto his lap, Vesper took deep breaths and this time her lungs didn't fill with water.
Tears of joy ran down James' eyes as he pulled her into a embrace.  Silent sobs racked Vesper's body also, as she weakly clung to his bloody, ripped and soaked shirt.

"We have to get you to a hospital."  James whispered in her ear.

"No."  Came her strained reply.

James held her out in front of him, a look of pure confusion on his handsome features. "Why?  I love you more than anything and you just died!  Do you think I'm just going to leave you here?"

Vesper shook her head. "You have to.  Quantum...they'll come for me, they'll come for you."

James shook his head. "I don't even know who Quantum is, but who cares if they come for us?  We have each other and that got us through the Casino case didn't it?"  Vesper nodded.

"Yes, but they want you dead.  That's why I gave them the money."  James picked her up and started making his way down from the wreckage.

"We'll deal with everything when you're better.  You'll have to answer some questions, though."

"I understand.  But, you're not angry are you?"  James kissed her tenderly.

"There are things that can fix my anger."  Vesper laughed.

"You're going to have to wait for that, Mr. Bond.  I'm not well enough to enjoy your perfectly formed arse yet."

James laughed, but something caught his eye as he stepped from the building.  Something or someone...someone watching them.  Was that the man from the torture room?  It couldn't be.
