I'm scared. Scared as fuck. I'm trying, fighting so hard. But I'm simply no match against a flesh eater's inhuman strength.
I'm gonna die.. I'm gonna die.. Oh god, I'm gonna die..
"K! Duck!"
I did as told and next thing I know, Ryle's improvised mace has crushed the monster's face. Despite this, it's still standing up.
"Shit." Pulling out his pistol, he shot the Gnasher twice in the head. Now we can be sure its really dead.
Panting heavily, he walked towards me. Kneeling, he asked me if I was fine.
Automatically placing my hands on my nape where the flesh eater breathed in, I tried to feel any bites or injuries. "I think I was bitten."
I feel nothing but disgust, and fear. Isn't better to just die than become one of them? I don't want to be one them.
I feel warm hands on my cheeks. Its calling me, but I cannot bring myself to respond.
"Kadyn!"
My head snapped to Ryle's face. "Don't call me that!"
"But it's the only way you'll look at me."
I looked directly in his eyes, searching for something. Anything. And slowly, I felt warm all over, bringing me back to reality.
"Was I bitten?", I asked him in a soft voice.
"Nope. You're fine.", he said. Then kissed me on the forehead.
Silence. We just stayed like that for some time. Ryle was the first one to speak, "Just keep on breathing. I'll go check the ladder. Okay?"
I nodded.
Taking a deep breathe, he stood and started with his task.
"There's the ladder. It will take us straight to the roof. Prob is it's stuck too high. Even if I jump like a basket pro I wouldn't make it still.", Ryle said. Probably to me.
Another deep breathe and I stood. "Boost me up."
"Ya' sure?"
I narrowed my eyes at him, my face a mask of steel.
"Oki doki. C'mon then"
He stood in position. My right foot stepped in his hands and the other on his shoulder. I grabbed the end of the ladder, and tried to pull it down but it's really damned stuck.
"Its stuck like glue."
"That's what I said, right?", he replied in a shakey voice.
"Boost me higher Ryle. I'm gonna go to the roof."
"Hyes boss. Hhhyyaaa...!"
Grabbing the edge of the roof, I pulled myself up. I looked around and made sure no flesh eaters are going to get us. The sun is halfway through rising. We got to work fast. I stood on the edge again and kicked the ladder a couple times until it slide down.
"Thanks K!"
I could hear whirring sounds from afar. "Chopper's coming Ryle. Move faster."
"Coming dear!"
I put my bag down and took out my paraphernalias; a red shirt and a two-feet metal pole. Attaching the shirt to the pole, I've quickly checked on Ryle and see that he's doing the same. The whirring sounds are coming closer and closer.
Rescue's coming.
I could see the chopper. Standing up I raised the pole up high and waved it in the air.
"OVER HEEEERE!!"
"HELP US!!!". Ryle joined in, waving his rainbow striped flag. I can't help but to grin at that.
The chopper seeing our improvised flags, darts toward our direction and lands. We're safe. For now.
