~CHAPTER ONE~
"Today's the day.
Today's the day.
Today's the day."
This is what I kept chanting to myself slowly as I walked my way to work 8 blocks down in the chilly night.
Today's the day I ask for a raise. I need the extra money. No t for me but for Toby. He needs it now more than anything. I have to try. No more being scared. Being scared is not going to help Toby get better.
Walking towards the back entrance of Angelo's Angles, I hold the key that is around my neck and bend down so I won't have unclasp the key to unlock the door. It was already cold as it is, the last thing I want right now is to be standing outside more then necessarily. A lot of things happen in the dark when you're alone.
As I step my foot in the door of the private and luxury strip club. I already see regular customers waiting by the bar with Havana serving them. I look up to see the time on top of the bar and It reads 6.45 PM. That's good, I'm fifteen minutes early. Gives me enough time to talk to Angelo before my shift begins. Today's the day.
Looking around I spot Angelo sitting and talking to a man I have never seen before. He looked really big. Big as in musclier. They were always the worst ones, their hits were hard and their blows would surly leave a mark for days. I try to go for the smaller men so it'd hurt less. Contemplating if I should go over there or wait till Angelo is finished talking, I pick the later one and start to turn around. As I'm walking to the dressing rooms to change into my uniform for the night, I think about Toby and knowing if I don't speak to Angelo now I won't get a chance later on.
Making my way towards the Angelo and the man I started to get butterflies in my stomach but I knew this had to be done now.
"Hello Angelo" I said being hesitant.
Angelo turned around and looked at me with wide eyes before replying back to me with fake enthusiasm.
"There's my favourite Angle"
I knew this was all an act because the man standing now behind Angelo which I could see perfectly looked along the lines of irritated and a pinch of disappointment. I'm not too sure, I can't read people's faces too good.
"What can I help you with Angel?" Angelo said braking my train of focus in the man.
"Umm Uh Is It OK if I uh If" I somehow could make a sentence when the man's dark eyes were staring straight at me.
"Could I get my raise today?" I asked in the most lowest whisper I could muster.
"You're raise?" Angelo started to grin wide. "Sure you can but you know what you have to do to get the raise? Correct?"
I looked up into his eyes and silently begged he wasn't meaning what I was thinking.
"What would that be?" I ripped my eyes off Angelo and made eye contact with the man. Angelo answered for me.
"She is stepping up a level in the club" When Angelo said this, I ripped my eyes away from the man and looked at my shoes, feeling ashamed.
"We just need to find her first client that I can trust to tell me the truth If she goes through with this or not." Angelo was now having a conversation with the man about the dilemma that I am in right now.
"If you are looking for someone to tell you the truth, whether she goes through with it or not. I would happy to provide my assistance." At this point I looked up towards the man with scared look. Please tell me this is not real. Not him someone smaller please.
"Done deal" Angelo smiled then turned to me "Go change and put something nicer on for your first client Ella."
I knew there was no point in arguing. I needed the money. Toby needed the money. On that note I broke eye contact from both of the men and turned around to make my way to changing rooms.
Just one night not too bad right?
