A steady, uninterrupted drizzle hit hard and unexpectedly that night, as I followed the Impala through the darkened road. I found myself suppressing a smile at the irony of the situation. This was so not me, and if Scott were here, he would be making fun of me for breaking my own rules. "Don't make new friends, don't date, don't get attached" I used to say to him systematically all the time. But he always believed the possibility of having it all was real; a life, someone to love and still do the job. I, somehow, couldn't. But that night, Dean's disinterested kindness felt refreshing, raw, and real. And I couldn't say no that.We reached the destination in less than twenty minutes, parking our cars in the underground garage. I guess the mere fact the place had its own underground parking should have hinted me about the size of it, but nothing could've prepared me for what I was about to see. Dean pulled open the metal door, my duffel bag over his shoulder, and the place I was introduced to was taken out of a movie. The air smelled of wood and stone, and old books; and I was already loving the vibe of it. Everything felt surreal, and in my world monsters exist so picture that.
Dean disappeared for a quick second, but I kept walking intrigued to see more of the walls around me. I recall perfectly how my jaw dropped a little as my eyes found the library. God, that library. I ran my fingers through the covers of the books, and I felt terrible that my hands weren't properly washed.
"These books must make hunts a lot easier, huh?" I asked thinking it was Dean who had just entered the room, but instead, an unfamiliar voice replied.
"Actually they do." I turned around a bit startled to see a very tall man with a smile on his face. An, also gorgeous man who I assumed by default it was Sam. These guys had good genes. "I'm Sam, you must be Leah, right?"
"Yeah, nice meeting you" I walked over him to shake his hand. "Sorry for being here, I promise I'll leave the second I sort this mess out."
"Don't worry about it. It's nice to have someone else around here." He grinned. "So, you like books?"
"Pretty much a bookworm, yeah" I shrugged with a smile, "I try to do all my research in libraries. Don't get me wrong, I love computers and all, but it's just different, you know?"
"I totally get what you are saying."
He jogged me the memory of Scott, although they looked nothing alike. Scott was blonde with shaggy hair, lean like him, and a bit shorter than Dean, but it was Sam's energy what reminded me of him. So relaxed and sure of himself, but rather curious of the world, and everything around him. And a bit of a nerd too. Scott would've loved all these books, and do our research on them. He would've lost himself in between Enochian and Latin, always learning something new every day.
"Please, feel free to check them out if you want."
Dean came back not that long after, walking into the study right when I was lifting my t-shirt to Sam to show him the scars I had from when I killed three werewolves on my own. He cleared his throat, trying to enter the conversation, and his eyebrows were raised in confusion. Or, was that jealousy? Probably not, it wouldn't have made sense anyway, it's not like we were something.
"Let me show you your room." He invited me to follow him down a corridor.
It turns out the place was even bigger than what it initially looked like, and it took us at least ten or twelve doors to finally get to my room, and his across the hall. He opened the door and said "tadá" striking one of those poses the models often do when they are presenting a prize in a tv contest. I couldn't help but laugh. And then widen my eyes in surprise when I noticed the queen bed with clean sheets, a few towels on a chair, and my own bathroom. This was a palace.
