I never had much in life. If I wanted something, I had to work for it. And there was something I really wanted. I wanted it so much, I was willing to go to extremes to get it.
Ever since I was 10 I watched my brother race the dirt bikes. They would take the bikes out to the track, and race with Uncle Jay, and his sons, Derek and Lucas. I always wanted to try and race, but I was just a girl, and girls can't race. But I practiced, I rode to school, I rode the tracks, and I rode around the yard. Mom couldn't get me off that bike. Now I have a reason to be on that bike, and now I have to race.
Mom told Justin not to go riding, because it had just stormed, but he didn't listen. I was the smarter rider. I didn't ride in the rain, or when it was too dark. Justin forgot about all that.
"But mom! I have a race tomorrow! I have to practice!" And with that, he stormed out the door, and out to the track.
"He'll be sorry." Mom said plainly "He'll be sorry."
I watched as he rode over the hills, and around the curves, in the rain. That's when he went around the turn on a hill, and flipped his bike over on him, landed with his knee backwards, and broke his arm. Mom and Joe (Her no good boyfriend) stormed out the door, to see if he was ok. I knew he wasn't.
As Joe pulled him inside, I heard my brother cry for the first time. Not a painful cry, but a heartbroken cry.
"Now I cant race... Who's gonna race for me? We don't have a backup racer! I'll be disqualified! I'll never make it to the championship!" He screamed out.
"We do have pretty damn good racer in the family.." Joe said as he turned to me. " Could you do it?"
That is how it started. I was ready, but there was a problem. They wont let girls race. So I had to do the extreme. I had to pretend to be Jay Denver, instead of Leila Denver.
