[EDITED]
Eleven year old, Emma Stephens was sitting in the middle of her bed reading Pride and Prejudice when a big, brown barn owl flew through her big, bay window. She thought it was strange, even stranger yet that it had a letter attached to its leg. She took the letter and saw that it was addressed to her.
She opened and read:
Dear Ms. Stephens,
We are pleased to inform you that you have been accepted at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Please find enclosed a list of all necessary books and equippment. Term begins on September 1. We await your owl by no later than July 31.
Yours sincerely,
Draco Malfoy (Deputy Headmaster)
She sat there a moment confused, having never heard of such a school before. Maybe her mom could help her make sense out of the letter. Emma headed to the living room where her mother was watching TV.
"Mom, could you please look at this for me?" she asked handing her mom the letter.
"Sure, sweetie," her mom replied. Looking over the letter, she paled. Then she became overcome with bubbly excitement. She jumped out of her seat and bear-hugged Emma. "Sweetie, you're a witch... I have been waiting for your letter to come. My best friend is a witch so I kinda know the signs. We have to go to London to get your supplies."
"London....as in London, England?! Mom, we live in Johnstown, Pennsylvania!"
"Yes, dear. London, England. I'm going have to book our flights and find a place to stay. So I suggest you go pack your clothes and essentials."
"Kay, Mom." Emma walked up the steps to her deep sea blue, cluttered room. She had one wall of her room covered in bookshelves along with books littering the floor. She pulled a suitcase and a duffle bag out of her closet, filled the suitcase with her favorite books and packed her clothes in the duffle. In a carry on bag she placed her wallet, ipod, laptop, a few books, crayons, and a few coloring books.
Two days later, Emma and her mom went to the airport and, after a long wait, boarded the plane.
(skip plane ride)
When they landed, Emma's mother said, "I booked us a room at the Caessar Hotel and I contacted one of my friends, who is a witch that lives here. And she'll take us to Diagon Alley to buy your school supplies in a couple days."
