Yaten and Zeke's past
The south region. The hottest region. Living there is entirely different than at other places. While the days can be unbearably hot, the nights are remarkably cold. However, the weather is not the biggest problem. Poverty is everywhere. Especially in cities such as the capital, Sandur City. If you wanted something to eat, you either had to work, search in the trash or steal it. Survival in these places is only possible for the fittest. That's what Yaten has learned in all those years living on the streets. But even so, your chances of survival rise if you don't stand on your own. It's been several years since he and his friend, Zeke, joined the most notorious street gang of the city. He still isn't too happy about that decision, but at least he's alive. If the only compensation is just doing some illegal activities from time to time, he can bear with it. So far, the only things they've done is either stealing or beating people up. Never have they resorted to killing someone.
The gang's name is Red Phoenix. No matter which member gets attacked, the group will rise like a phoenix, stronger than before, and beat their enemies. Both boys have the logo tattooed on their body like anyone else in the gang. The notorious street gang is known throughout the entire city, perhaps even the entire region. There are gangs who look up to them, but on the other hand, others envy them with hate. Perhaps the latter is the reason why a smaller group, the Sand Fangs, from a smaller town across the desert has started picking a fight with them. At first, the boss had laughed at their effort, but now they managed to anger him to this level. Things certainly look grim for those Fangs. The reason why is quite simple. In the desert between Sandur City and Liten Town, the place where the Sand Fangs live, are some ruins of an old long forgotten place. It's in fact territory of the Red Phoenix.
However, it seems that the Fangs didn't quite agree on that and have attacked the members who lived there. Not only have they hurt fellow comrades, but they also settled down on that spot in the desert. So the boss swore vengeance. After all, it turned out that their second in command, Vanas, who had come up with the operation. The boss was really looking forward to beat that guy. Yaten felt sorry for him. Knowing their leader, he would personally show Vanas to not mess with them. Yaten doesn't really look forward to battling the other gang. Zeke, on the other hand, seems to be pretty psyched about it. The boss has divided the member into two teams. One will go to the ruins and seize it. The rest, Yaten and Zeke included, will go to Liten Town to teach them a lesson.

It had taken them a while to prepare everything, but now they are driving on their sand scooters all the way across the desert. Once they reach the outskirts of the town, they ride towards some old houses. Presumably, this place is their hideout. Yaten watches how the boss orders two other men to set up the goods in a bag in a particular building. Both of them run off. He wonders what their mission is. He can't direct his question to the leader since at the moment he wants to open his mouth, both groups engage in battle. Yaten easily fends off his enemies, not killing them, but simply knocking them unconscious. Zeke doesn't kill as well, though it seems he doesn't care if he inflicts wounds on his opponent or not. Since they have already taken care of their opponents and none seem to appear for now, they watch both gang leaders duelling. The two are wounded, but it's clear that their boss has the upper hand. Just when he wants to finish the battle, a blonde guy comes in-between. So this is the famous Vanas. The boss easily blocks, but now the Fang leader joins again. It's two against one. Zeke wants to go by their side to help, but another goon stops him. Yaten rushes forward instead. Once he gets in earshot, he hears how the boss scoffs at them:
"Your resistance is futile! While we are battling here, two of my men are visiting your home apartment. They are setting bombs and within twenty minutes, they will go off, destroying it entirely. That will teach you to not pick a fight with people high above your reach."
