Ch.1 The Reaping

" Katniss lets go, it's time for the reaping"! "Coming mom, just cleaning the kill", I replied. "Well hurry Prim and Gale are waiting", she yelled. So I got dressed and headed down the stairs and took my little duck's hand. It was off to the reaping!! We arrived just in time. Prim getting picked kept running through my head. No she won't get picked she's only in there once. I hope I don't get picked either. I crossed my fingers as stupid Effie pulled out the name, don't let it be me!! It wasn't me!! It was....... Primrose Everdeen. "NO", I screamed. The peacekeepers shoved me back, I kept going. "I volunteer, I volunteer as tribute", I screamed. Then I heard another voice scream no. I walked up the stage as Gale held back Prim. "What's your name sweetheart", I heard Effie ask. "Kat, Katniss Everdeen", I said my voice very shaky. I was thinking so much I almost missed the boys. It was Peeta Mellark!! Well the odds are not in my favor today!! I remember him he was the boy with the bread I will never stop owing him, ever. We shook hands as the mayor hurdled us to the room where we would have an hour to say goodbye to our families. The first people to come in were Prim and my mom. "Katniss, you have to win", little Prim cried. " I will try my best", I replied. I turned to my mom, " Mom you can't leave Prim again you have to protect her", I said. The peacekeepers came in to take them. "I love you....", I yelled as they were forced out of my room. There were more people to come to my room, they don't matter. The next person was my friend Madge. She came in and told me the usual, you can win, or you can hunt. Then surprisingly she gave me the best gift I have ever received, it was a golden Mockingjay pin to keep me safe in the arena. We said our goodbyes and minutes after that me and Peeta loaded the train to the Capitol.
