ONE; PHASING
BLAIRE GRIPPED THE EDGE of the table, inhaling and exhaling loudly. Embry watched her carefully, his eyes darting from his imprint to his alpha. "Relax, Blaire," Sam commanded. She closed her eyes, her head buried into the crook of her arm. The chair emitted a screeching sound as she moved backwards. Emily stopped her cooking at the oven, watching the girl attempt to control her anger. Sam leaned down to speak with her. "Blaire, if you don't want to phase, you need to work on how to manage this."
"How am I supposed to be handling this when you're all inspecting me?" She seethed. Dahlia kicked off the wall of Emily's house, wiggling her cellphone in her hand.
"I'll help, B. I'm going to try and call Leah. Again." She fled from the spectacle, dialing Leah's number, which had been memorized by heart. Paul sighed from his spot next to the counter.
"Yeah, I'll head out too, Thompsen. Good luck," he winked, earning a growl from Embry. The kitchen contained only four people, three of them observing Blaire like a hawk.
"Breathe in and out," Sam instructed.
When Blaire came to him earlier that week, confessing she had been obtaining sudden spurts of anger, he wanted to help. Embry had no desire for his imprint to become a wolf like himself. Sam explained that Blaire should've been the one to phase first but because of the events Dahlia was going through, the results were altered. It was accurate that Blaire would transform around this time and much to the displeasure of her father, she began to shift.
The first sign was overheating. She called Embry over, stating that she wasn't feeling amazing. He took her temperature and dialed Sam immediately. They drove her to the hospital, thinking it was the aftermath of her incident with Victoria, but turned out to be the complete opposite.
Blaire didn't want to become one of the La Push wolves. She'd seen how much her boyfriend and sister had to sacrifice to protect the people living on the reservation.
The second sign was a short temper. She would curse at the slightest things Embry would do. He gave her some space to collect herself, asking Sam if there was something they could do to prevent the phasing. He voiced that the wolf inside of her had more power and control, but if Blaire was strong enough, she could defeat it.
"I can't do this, Em," she whispered. He kissed her forehead gently, making some of the muscles in her body relax. He cupped her cheeks, smiling and pushing back her hair.
"C'mon, Bear. You capable enough to endure anything. We'll get through this, I promise."
"I need to check on Quil," Sam informed, standing up. Emily left her place to wrap her arms around Sam's waist. He kissed the top of her head. "I still have to verify if he knows the proper rules."
Quil phased a few days ago. He was beyond excited to finally be back with Embry and Jake. He was convinced that they ditched him for Sam until his anger finally got the best of him. Sam was afraid he was so enthusiastic that he forgot about his duties as a shapeshifter.
"Keep an eye on her, Embry. If it gets too bad, call me and I'll come see what I can do," he lectured. He kissed Emily once again before leaving. The woman laid a plate of chocolate chip cookies in the center of the table.
"Eat as much as you'd like, Blaire," she offered. Blaire returned a small smile. She was thankful that most of the pack members were out or else the cookies would've disappeared in seconds. Jake was still distraught over Bella Swan, and Jared and Kim were off on a date.
