Prologue
It started when I was twelve. They called in everyone who had what they call the "virus" to be "cured." I didn't go, because at the time, I didn't know, I didn't know that I had the "virus." Now I know, the abilities finally showed up, I was turned in, but I escaped, and now I'm hunted, now I'm sure. I'm the only one left. The only one with the gift. The only one, who can save them. Save them from "Utopia". Save them from losing the past. Save them, from everything.
Chapter 1
I watch the dancing flames as the memories flash through my mind. Thinking of my home, my family, then I wonder who my real family is, where I'm really from, and why we had to leave. Even though my mind is racing, like always, my senses stay alert, just in case somehow, the Eugor find me. I sigh as I wait for the rat to finish cooking. When it's finally done I bite into it, it tastes like all jungle rat. Tasteless, they are normally pretty good, but that's when they're in a soup with other more...tasteful food. I just wish for salt, then it would at least have some flavor. I pause as I hear a twig snapping. Then another, I gauge it to be about 20 meters away. As the sounds continue, I move slowly back to where my bag lies. I pull out my dagger, I would normally use my broadsword but I'm in too much of a cramped space. I back up to a tree, that's one lesson I've learned the hard way, always keep your back to the wall, and I have a scar to show for it. Hearing a sound directly behind me I turn, I flinched as I heard a smacking sound behind me. I turn expecting the worst, Eugor's trained bears about to rip me to pieces, or maybe it's...my thoughts stopped as I saw who was there. It was Sacred, my white panther. "Sacred!" I thought to her, "you should tell me when it's you!" "I really don't see what the problem is, I was just having a little fun," he thought back to me, you see we can communicate telepathically because of my necklace. It was forged by the famous blacksmith Kanai. He is said to have been imbued with magical qualities as a child, nobody knows how or why. Some think he has the "virus" and because of this people ask why he hasn't been "cured." He told me it's because he does them a favor every now and then. I think he liked me, I dont know why though, maybe he really does have the "virus" and he liked me because he somehow knew I did too. Anyway, Kanai forged my necklace when I was a kid because I did him a favor and he thought he needed to repay me. When he gave it to me, he told me it would help me do what was needed to be done, but it might also bring danger to me if I don't use it correctly. Then as I was leaving he said, "One more thing kid, it will also bring you a most loyal friend, but not in the form that you expect." I thanked him and then I was on my way. Later that day I was out playing and I found that the necklace was no longer around my neck. I searched for it, but to no avail. As I sat at the window of my room wishing I had it back, I saw a shimmering white form coming towards my window. As it stalked towards me, I saw a glimmer below it's mouth, I recognized my necklace. Only there was something different about it. I flinched as the white form jumped up to the roof outside my window. I opened it and let it inside quietly. It jumped straight up onto my bed and dropped the necklace into my hands. Then it laid down and stared at me. I inspected the necklace, it was different, I had been right. Now there was a small pendant on it, with an odd looking insignia. It was like nothing I had ever seen before. It was fierce, yet beautiful. I looked up at the white form. What are you? I thought while looking deep into it's eyes. "I'm a panther," I heard back. I glanced back to him "Did you just talk?" I asked him. "Not exactly," it said, "you're just hearing my thoughts." Then it hit me, this must be the friend Kanai was talking about! I got so excited so quick I almost forgot where I was, "Really!? Well what's your name? Where are you from? Why can I hear your thoughts? Why does my necklace have a pendant on it?" "Woah! Just slow down a little bit Sim! I'll answer all the questions you want, I just need something to eat and drink, it was a long
journey I took to come here, and I'm tired." "Well ok," I said downhearted, "what do you want?" "Water please, and any meat you have." "Ok, be right back then." I went downstairs and got a bowl, a water bottle, and some sausage, then I took it back upstairs. I swear he grinned when he saw the sausage. I gave him the sausage then poured the water into the bowl, "So what's your name?" "Sacred," he said, lapping up all the water. Sacred, I thought to myself, I like that. "So, are you ready to answer the rest of my questions?" "Well no matter what I say your going to ask them aren't you?" "Yeah, pretty much." "I can hear your thoughts because we're magically connected through your pendant." "Cool, I guess." "And the pendant? It's a gift from an old friend. I saved his life and in return I asked him to find me a Companion." "What?" "I'm a Companion Panther, Companions come in all breeds though. We bond with one human for all of our lives, and you're my Companion. We come from the other world, Nebula 6." "Nebula 6? What-" "NO MORE QUESTIONS! I'll tell you when it's time." "Is it time?" I turned to Sacred. She doesn't have to ask for what,"No." she says,"It's not time, Sim." her voice is almost sad. All these years I could connect with her mind I've never been able to pry the imformantion I needed out of it when she was set on hiding it. I jump down from the trees and make camp, Sacred goes off to hunt.
Chapter 2
I scanned the forest. Dawn's fidgeting next to me, she can't stand, or sit, still for long. And then she starts setting things on fire. I have all of fifteen years of experince dealing with my sister, Dawn glances at me. She has bright orange eyes with long, braided gold and bleached blonde hair. I'm four years older than her, nineteen, and we don't look very much a like. I have purple eyes with eletrice blue lining the edges, and staticy black hair with strange blue strands. Blue sparks pop at my fingertips and we drop from the tree in unison. "Is he close?" Dawn whispers and I nod. I don't tell her how I know that, she trusts me enough. We climb the trees again, silent. We jump from tree to tree sometimes, others we just walk. We finally find the clearing and we climb the trees again silently. We spread out, he's tending a fire, unaware. Dawn stays near the front, I go to the back. Lightning shoots across the sky as I drop to the ground. After he sees the lightning he stands, looking up at the sky. Its a clear night. I smirk slightly and purposely step on a stick, causing him to whirl around, broadsword drawn. Dawn drops down at that moment, walking up behind him. As she walks by, the fire seems to jump and it spreads for a moment before shrinking back. Her hands are lined with orange flames, as she sneaks up behind him. He doesn't know she is there.
