Prologue.

She was beautifully peaceful, stood there on the edge of the cliff, her vibrant ginger hair wafting in the strong wind. You never would have suspected she was broken, for she held a firm smile across her face, letting the world know she was ready to let go. I was stood underneath the tree, our tree, when it happened. She told me she was fine, that it was all okay, that it was all just in her mind. The truth was it wasn't. Everything wasn't alright, not anymore. Guilt still torments me, I could have done something. Then I realise that there wasn't a word in the english language that could stop her from doing what she did. Not one. I loved her with all my being, but she was too fucked up to love me back. Sometimes I felt like she didn't even know I was there. I think that's what hurt the most. My name is Charlie McCollin, and this is the story of how I met the girl with the rainbow shoelaces.
