The child stepped up with her mother. The child's cheeks rosy red and filled with excitement.
"Mommy, will the kids at school be nice?" the girl smiled.
"Yes. Be sure to make many friends, and dont be mean... alright?" the mother said softly, kneeling down to hold her daughter's cheeks.
"Yes, mommy," she promised. The mother smiled and kissed her on the forehead.
"Have a good day, sweety."
The child waved goodbye as the bus drove off, towards the school. Her pigtails hung down her shoulders, and her bow was perfectly placed on her head. The bus only had one more stop. The breaks screeched, and the doors flung open.
Her eyes peered out the window, seeing a little boy hugging his mother, and then seperating from her as he got onto the bus. All the seats where full, so he had to sit with her.
"Hi," she said, looking at him. He looked at her, his brown eyes meeting hers.
"Hi! Im Darius," he said holding out his hand clumsily.
"Anna," she said with a small smile, and took his hand and shook.
The whole ride, Anna and Darius spoke to eachother about how excited they where to go to school, kindergarden. Neither one was nervious, or missed their mothers so much that they cried. They got along well. The bus soon stopped and the bus driver told them to sit in those seats in the afternoon. Anna and Darius smiled at eachother, knowing they could talk more in the afternoon now.
"Go on, you can get off now," the driver told them, opening the doors. Anna followed Darius off the bus. She and Darius walked side by side into the large elementary school, both excited about their first day. The school was crowded, but nice and clean. Other students, in higher grades then them passed by, hurrying to class. Anna walked into the small kindergarden room.
"Goodmorning, class!" The teacher smiled, "Im Mrs. Skye, I will be your teacher this year."
The class was small, consisting of only about seventeen students, all of which where a mixture of excitement and nerviousness. Anna sat far away from Darius, because of the seating arrangement the teacher set. Anna hung her backpack on the back of her chair, and turned her attention to the teacher, who was taking attendance.
"When I say your names, please say 'here' or 'yes'," Mrs. Skye said, while taking a pencil and writing down something.
Anna waited until her name would be called. She heard Darius's name, and heard him say 'here' loudly.
"Hailee?" Mrs. Skye said, looking up from her paper. Anna heard a small 'here'. "Anna?"
"Here!" Anna said, gulping.
"Good, we are all here!" The young teacher smiled.
A loud buzzing noise souded from a large speaker in the corner of the room.
"Greetings staff and students to a whole new year! We hope you all are having a wonderful morning, and we soon wish for all of you to eat breakfast and go on to your first class of the year. Today we will be having breakfast pizza with juice, milk, or cereal. Sport sign ups are open all this week, and next week. So if anyone is interested, see me in the office. Have a nice day!" The speaker shut off, and the whole class looked at Mrs. Skye.
"Okay guys, time to start lining up." she said, getting up. "This table, come on up." She said that until all the students where lined up and ready to go get breakfast.
"Anna, over here!" Darius said, standing in the back. Anna walked to the back, behind Darius.
"Thanks." She said to him.
"No problem," he said, turning to her, smiling.
That day, a true friendship blossomed.
