It's funny how fate can twist and turn people from being heroes to villains. Then once good people go down in history as villains.
My name is Ami Wolf. I know, I know, very original last name for a wolf. In my forest, all wolves have the last name Wolf just like all foxes have the surname Fox, mice are Mouse, Cats are Cat, etc. As for Ami, Mother named me that because it meant friend. She wanted me to be a good wolf. So that's how my life was for the past 15 human years.
Being one of the strongest, smartest, fastest animals of the forest I ended up as the protector of the forest. I have dealt with all the infamous tricksters like Loki Fox, Murders like Catherine Cat and the collection of both good and psychopathic witches our community seems to attract. To all the creatures, I was the good guy that while you don't want to mess with, I would take care of you. Well, not all the creatures. Humans being the stupid, prideful creatures they are never listened to me!
It all started when I was doing my usual morning rounds around the territory. I was told that a hunter was about. After walking around for a while and settling that it was all safe, I sat down by a tree. I heard a girl singing a German folk song which woke me up. Its was a little female human pup wearing a red cape. Why was she alone? Who seriously sends a pup into the forest alone? I wondered.
To be sure that she wasn't up to no good, I went up to her.
"Guten Tag, Fraulein Red-Cap." I greeted.
She turned to me without fear and smiled, "Guten Tag, Herr Wolf."
Herr? How come humans always assumed I was male? I didn't point it out since it wasn't the pup's fault her parents didn't teach her how to tell the sex of a wolf. She seemed polite for a pup, so at least they taught manners.
"May ask where you are going?" I asked. There wasn't that many places that required the forest path.
"To my Grandmother's house." she replied a little too trustingly.
I raised an eyebrow. The only old lady I knew lived around here had gone to town and wouldn't be back for the rest of the week.
I looked over and saw she was holding a picnic basket, "What's in the basket?"
Red-Cap opened her basket reveling a loaf of bread, some cookies, wine and various other sweets. "Some sweets for Grandma. Mama baked yesterday so I decided to take some to her while Mama's out."
I smiled warmly at the child, "That's nice of you." but then I realized what she was doing, while nice was not safe. "However, you shouldn't be out in the forest alone. Where does your Grandmother live?"
"It's not that far! It's just a bit farther into the woods, under some oak trees with nut and berry bushes surrounding it!" the little girl declared.
So she was talking about the old lady that lived here in the woods. She must have not known about the old lady being out of town. I should tell her but something seemed fishy. Instead, i came up with a plan to distract her and check things out first.
"Well then, I wish you the best Fraulein." I said smoothly flicking my tail in the same motion humans use to say bye. Then I faked a look like I remembered something, "Oh! You know over in that patch over by the brier bushes are some gorgeous wildflowers. Why don't you pick some for your old grandmother?"
Red-Cap's eyes widened and with a huge smile on her face, she ran off in the direction of said flowers. I sighed, human pups have a worse attention span than a sparrow. And with than, I took off to the old ladies' house.
I knocked at the door (don't ask how I did that without thumbs) as a precaution to see if indeed someone was there.
"Who's there?" a voice asked beyond the door.
My ears perked in interest, "It's Wolf. I'm here to make sure everything is in order. Can I come in Frau?"
There was a pause then the voice spoke up, "Just lift the latch, Dear. I'm too old and weak to get it myself."
I lifted the latch and the door sprang open. The interior was clocked in a dark blanket of black even I had some trouble seeing through. However, it wasn't the darkness that alarmed me, it was the stench of death.
"Frau! Are you okay?!" I called.
Suddenly, the door slammed shut, cutting off all light. All I heard was the wicked laugh of a witch before something collided with my head knocking me out.
"HaHa, StUpId DoG."
....
When I woke up everything was a blur. As I sat up and realized something odd. I was wearing human clothes. Not just any clothes, old, torn blood clothes meant for elderly humans. I started to freak out upon seeing that the clothes were not the only bloody thing. My paws and mouth was too. The door swung open. There stood the hunter caring a large ax.
"Oh my, what a coincide I would see you here yo little sinner." the huntsman said, "I've been looking for you awhile."
...
Now, I'm not going to say what happened next. We all know what happened to the Wolf. Everyone has heard the tale of little red riding hood when they themselves where little children I just want to tell you how I ended up as the villain when I never was one! Of course with that being said, While you shouldn't automatically assume someone's evil, don't go trusting people too easily. People die that way...
FIN.
