It was a dark night. The light from the full moon shone across the cloudy sky, bathing the world beneath in a silver light.
At the Cooper residence, all was quiet. The events of the night before had drained everyone of all energy.
Gale Cooper and Aunt Lorraine had fallen asleep hours ago, and were sleeping a dreamless sleep. Quite fortunate, because both of them were sure that any dreams they had would be nightmares.
On the top floor of the Cooper house, Zach Cooper had finally closed his eyes and succumbed to the waves of exhaustion that had plagued him for hours.
But his was not a dreamless sleep.
For him, sleep only brought up painful memories. Nightmares.
His dreams gave him no rest...

He was following her. Stupid, right? Following a complete stranger, whose father could very well be a serial killer, deep into the woods to an unknown destination.
But, Hannah was different. He was sure of that. His gut had told him, from the moment he met her, that she was special. The good kind of special. The kind of special that makes your heart beat faster and stomach fill with butterflies. He could trust her. He just knew it.
And she was pretty. Oh, gosh she was pretty.
She looked back and smiled at him as she led him through the forest.
"Come on," she said with a wave and a smile, leading him deeper in the forest. "This way."
Of course he followed. That smile was all the encouragement he needed. At this point, she could've asked him to step in front of a bus and he would've done it.
Of course, her dad did seem like a psychopath. Who was to say she wasn't one too?
"Are you taking me somewhere to kill me?" He asked, deciding to voice a tiny bit of his worry in humor. She laughed. "I'm just curious."
She laughed some more and gave him a mischievous smile as she rounded a tree trunk.
"I'm playing it by ear."
Gosh, she was pretty. And that laugh, wow. He could get used to hearing that laugh.
He looked around then noticed he couldn't see her anymore.
"Hannah?" He yelled, looking around. She was nowhere to be seen. "Yes, Zach, follow the stranger into the woods. What could possibly go wrong?" He muttered to himself.
Suddenly she reappeared around the trunk of a different tree, giggling.
"Come on, scaredy-cat. We're almost there," She said, leading him down an old, overgrown path.
"Just a little further," She called to him over her shoulder.
He looked around. It was dark, but he could vaguely make out the shapes of small buildings around him.
"Wait here." Hannah told him as she ran into the darkness. She obviously knew her way around here.
She was a mysterious girl, Hannah, almost as mysterious as her father. But hers was a good kind of mysterious.
