I fall face first in the snow, causing it's colds wetness to sting my face as I run from something that terrified me. Something that terrified me so greatly I would run out of the own warmth of my home.
'Mother, are you okay?
Do you need help?
Am... Am I a burden to you?'
I had asked this before I had run out, but in return, all she does is stares. Looks me up and down, thinking to herself quietly.
"I'm fine, sweetie. Could you go grab my one box out of my room?" she says with love in her voice, but her eyes show a different story. An insane like glint give me a bad feeling, telling me that I shouldn't, but I obey my mother like any other 4 year old would do.
I shuffle around underneath her bed, searching for her box. I stare at it with fearful eyes, thinking the worst.
For a random reason, I think of my grandmother.
~
"Harmony, you act far more mature than any other child I have met your age. Why is that?" she asks, curiosity in her voice.
"I... Learned not to trust mama." I say smiling, as I continue to play with the doll she had gotten me. She looks up at her daughter, wondering why such a young child would understand such adult-like things.
~
I take the box into my hands, and run down the stairs. I don't want mother to get mad like last time.
I strip in front of her with the box. She doesn't notice my presence for a few moments, but then shows me an insane, toothy grin.
She takes the box into her hands, and opens it with a shaky grip.
She first takes out a picture. She looks at it with hatred in her eyes.
"I'm happy I left that stupid excuse of a mate." she says, as if I'm not in the room. She empties out the contents of the box onto the floor, and searches through her stuff. Pictures, small items, and lastly... A knife. A look of fear come into my eyes as I see mother pick it up and look at the blade, then to me many times.
"You know, Harmony..." mother says, standing up.
"I think it's time for you to be 6 feet deep." she says, jumping up and chasing after me with the knife. I stubble around sloppily, dodging her attacks. Horror has found it's way into my eyes. My blue eyes look up at her in fear, wondering what she is planning. I don't waste time thinking about it, I just stumble out of the door and into the cold snow. My bare feet sting from the cold show melting through my socks and burning up my feet. I stand there shivering, what I would be able to do. I'm grateful that I have on some jeans and a light jacket to at least keep me from freezing, but it wouldn't help me for long.
The front door opens and there stands my mom, with her big knife in hand.
"Come back here you little b!tch! I need your life insurance!" she screams as she starts running after me, aiming her knife towards my head. I start running away with the tears in my eyes, blurring my vision. After many minutes of running, I start to see a forest. Maybe I could get away from mother in there. I start running into the forest, but I feel myself start to wobble and feel funny. In a matter of seconds, I trip over a large tree trunk and fall face first onto the ground. The pain of the snow burning my face starts to come in, but I can't move.
What's wrong with me? Why am I acting like this? Why is mother trying to kill her own flesh and blood? I break down crying right there in the middle of the woods until I hear a branch crack. I shoot up quickly, looking at my surroundings. I see a dark humane like shadow of in the distance.
I blink for a moment to realize it's getting closer to me, and I start to panic as I realize who it is. Mother. She's coming to finish me off. I start sobbing uncontrollably as my mother walks closer, and look in her bright blue like eyes. My dark black hair looks tattered, my body is scratched up, and my eyes are puffy from crying. I'm done. I'm not going to let her kill me. I reach around in my pockets for something to defend myself with.
I find my weapon deep in my pants pocket and pull it out. My trusty scissors. It's time for me to give mother the same insane smile that she gave me. I look her up and down, looking for her weak spots. I take note by her movements that she is drunk and unstable, giving myself, a four year old, and advantage.
"Does the little crybaby decide to fight back?" she says, pretending to cry as she speaks. "Game on." she says as she starts running at me. I stand there, ready to defend myself. She slashes at me with her knife, but misses. I open up my scissors and impale her with them in the arm, causing her to shriek. I pull the scissors down her arm, and her arm starts bleeding badly.
"Now it'll be harder for you mommy. I got you dominant arm" I say as I walk up to her with hate in my eyes. Is... Is this what it feels like to be crazy? Let yourself go? Well, I like it.
I hear police sirens in the distance, causing my mom to break down into full sobs. I stand there as I feel something warm falling down my cheek. I'm crying too.
*~*
I've been at the police station for a Couple of days now answering questions, but I tell the truth because they say they will give me candy and stuff if I do.
Today the investigator comes in to question me, so I sit there quietly drawing.
A nice looking lady with long, auburn like bar comes in and sits down.
"Hello Harmony. My name is investigator Laura, and I'm here to ask her a few questions. If you answer all of them honestly, I'll give you some candy, okay?" she says, smiling. But what I say next shocks her.
"Could you get me a nice pair of scissors instead? The police to away mine for 'investigative issues' and I really want a nicer pair." I say, smiling at the lady. She seems to have gotten a slight bit paler, but I don't know what I did. She pulls herself together and smiles. "S-Sure. Shall we get started?" she says, hiding her true feelings from me.
*~*
After the long talk with the investigator, she got me a nice and shiny pair of adult scissors. They're perfect. I want to cut something now, but I can't.
"Do you know of anyone that might take you in, little girl?" the man at the computer asks, looking at my file.
"No sir." I say sweetly as I look around.
"Now miss, please don't be alarmed but the only one that can take you in is your dad. No foster cares are available at the moment." he says, sighing and getting ready to call my dad. As he does, I hear a lots of yelling coming from the other line.
"Your dad will be here shortly." the man says, going back to his job leaving me there alone.
*~*
A man comes into the police station and does up to the desk. He looks at me with a look of disgust, and goes back to filling out papers. I look away awkwardly, not wanting him to hate me just because I look like the women who left him.
After many minutes, my father comes to get me. He is very tall and has dark brown hair and hateful looking blue eyes. I get a little scared from the way that he's looking at me, but I let it go and follow him out the door. As soon as we are in the car and are pulling out of the police station, he looks at me sternly.
"Just because I'm your father doesn't mean that I'm going to be all lovey dovey with you. Watch where you go and realize your place." he snarls and continues driving back to his house. I stay in the back of the car in silence, not wanting to ruin what peace we had at the moment.
We stop at a nice looking neighborhood and I look around. He walks into a house, and leaves me alone outside. I follow him inside soon after and start to look around. I find a room with all of my stuff in it, and guess that this must be my room.
I decide to put on a change of clothes because I've had these ones on for many days. I put on a simple purple T-shirt and some black skinny jeans. After this, I decide to look around and open the door next to mine.
I open the door and see many things cluttered around, making me think that this is my fathers room.
I step in the room and to look around, but I'm stopped by someone grabbing my shoulder.
"What the hell are you doing in my room?" father asks, looking very pissed off.
Fear comes up from my pit of emotions again, causing me to be silent.
"What. The. Hell. Are. You. Doing. In. My. Room?" he says again, grabbing my hair. I yelp in surprise, his actions taking me off guard.
"I-I'm sorry... I.... I w-was just l-looking around... I say quietly, tears forming in my eyes. And if he isn't scaring me enough as it is, his punches me in the nose. Hard. I loose my balance and fall on the ground, shocked by his actions. Did... Did father just hit me? The dark red blood that comes running down my nose tells me my answer. I look up at him with pleading eyes, but in return all I get is my hair pulled as I'm thrown into my room. He locks the door from the outside and walks away, leaving me there crying in my own pain and sorrow.
I put my shoes on quickly and open my window, hoping to find a way out. I step out and walk on my roof, finding a good spot to jump. I find a big pile of show and jump, landing in the show drift completely. I laugh lightly and roll out, regretting not putting on a jacket. I had left it down stairs.
I start to walk around, and soon come to a very pretty willow tree. I sit dons underneath it, looking around at my surroundings. It's very pretty where I am, but I miss my home with mother. Mama... Oh mama, I miss you so much. But... Why did you try to kill me? What... Happened to me to have me Act like that? It... It was scary, mama... I didn't like it! I sit there talking to myself quietly, sobbing as quiet as possible. My nose is still bleeding badly, and it hurts. Not just physically, but mentally as well.
"Hey, what's wrong?" I hear a boys voice say to me, pity in his voice. I loom up to see two piercing blue eyes looking back at me. He has brownish hair, and has on a white hoodie and some jeans.
"W-why do you care?" I say simply, trying my hardest to not show weakness.
"Because you're bleeding." he says simply, pointing at my nose. He digs around in his pocket and hands leans down towards me.
"Can I look at that for you?" He says, kindness pouring off his aura.
"I-I guess." I say, looking at him. His bright blue eyes look into mine, and he sits down and looks at my wound. He grabs a tissue in his left hand, and in grabs some snow in his right, melting it. He dabs the tissue in the now watery snow and cleans up my nose.
"Why are you being nice to me? I didn't do anything for you." I say simply, looking at his hands.
"Well, you're in my yard, and two, my mom made me. But I don't mind" he says, taking his hands away.

"what happened, anyway?" he says, looking at me as I tell him everything.
~°~
"There is no way someone like you is related to that Dick." he says, crossing his arms. I'm now shaking from the cold, but I like him company.
"Are you cold? Here." he says simply, handing his white hoodie to me. The warmth of it makes me relax, and it must have showed because I heard him chuckling.
"How old are you, anyway?" I say, knowing he was older than me.
"Oh I'm 7. I have an older brother whose 11." he says, getting up. "How old are you?
"I'm four years old." I say simply.
"Well, you should get back inside. It's cold out here." he says, helping me up and walking away.
"wait! What's your name? Mine is Harmony." I say walking behind him.
"Jeff. Jeffrey Woods. But just call me Jeff." he says, walking into his house.
