"Be safe, remember the plan. Take these," Her protector demanded. She quickly handed Amber nine tightly wrapped scrolls, each with a colorful ribbon and a symbol on it. "This will help you find the last ones."He said before Amber nodded and ran down the halls of the crumbling house. She opened the back door that led her to the forest only a few meters away. The dirty-blonde girl held tightly onto the scrolls and her bag as she darted away from the house. As she neared the forest, Amber looked back at the house and sighed, continuing on to the middle of the forest , where she'd be safe for the time being.

The girl grinned and sat at the trunk of a tree, unraveling one of the scrolls her protector gave her. Luckily for her, she wouldn't be completely in the dark about this; it was a map. Her eyes scanned the map for the nearest keeper. Squinting her eyes, she spots one lives a few miles away, well hidden from normal humans. But her kind could easily recognize keepers and their hideouts. The plan was to run as far away on foot as possible, wait for an hour or two- just to be safe- and come back.  Reunite with her protector and look for the other keepers. If the protector was gone, continue the plan without them.

Amber waited an hour or so before she turned around and returned to the house she had escaped moments earlier, only to come to see that her house has been wrecked. Tears gathered up in her eyes as she pushed the door open.

The windows were broken and the furniture was flipped. She knew what she had to do, and there was no turning back now. Stepping over the glass shards, she paused momentarily to stuff the scrolls into her bag. "They're all gone.." she sputtered, thinking to herself. Wiping her eyes, Amber stared at the mess laid out before her.

"Sam? Sam!" She shouted and ran through the rooms, after all, it wouldn't hurt to check. "Sam! This isn't funny!" She was nearing her protector's room now. "S-sam?" He wasn't there, but there was a red ribbon poking out from under the bed. It meant that there was a jar of money for situations like this, only Amber didn't want it to happen so soon. "Where..is it.." She lifted up the ends of the sheet, revealing the wooden board under the bed. "Aha! Found you." Smiling sadly, her fingertips felt around the board for the small latch to open it up.

The sound of a lock clicking had Amber letting out a breath she didn't realize herself. Her hand was shaking as she slid open the compartment door. Her smile quickly fell as she saw a lock around a safe. 'How many locks do this even have?', the girl thought, 'You know what, never mind. I'll just burn the dang lock off.' She went to her room and grabbed the biggest bag that she could find. It happened to be a decent sized, princess bag. 'Lovely, now I've got a new Gucci-Princess bag to show off.'

She laughed a little, something she hadn't done in the past few hours. Amber moved over to her closet and took half of her clothing and stuffed them into the bag as neatly as she can. If laundry folding was a sport, she'd be a pretty good candidate for a team. Once Amber was done putting most her belongings in the bag, well what she needed anyways. Girl products. She looked through the window to see if the car was damaged, to her relief it was in good condition.

The dirty-blonde ran through the kitchen to find the car keys, and luckily enough, the kitchen was unscathed. She grabbed the keys sitting in a glass bowl and ran through the front door, unlocking the car at the same time; it had become a profession of hers since she was usually running late everyday. She looked at the map and investigated where the nearest keeper was.

'Goodbye memories.' Amber muttered before backing out of the driveway. She scratched the symbol on her left hand, a flame to be specific. All keepers had their own symbol, representing their element, or power that they possessed. Of course, they believed it was only a birthmark as children, but each keeper of an element found out about their powers at the age of eighteen.

Amber's stomach growled, indicating she was hungry. She looked for the nearest fast food place, Burger King was the first insight. She ordered a kids meal with a large Sprite, of course trying not to spend too much money, since it was limited. Amber began her journey to the nearest keeper's home, Wokingham. Amber lived in London, about an hour from Wokingham.

She turned on the radio as Fools by Troye Sivan plays. As she listened to the song tears started to roll down her cheeks. She thought about her protector, Sam. Her parents died while protecting the scrolls from the hunters. She was about three years old when her parents died, the hunters have been hunting down generations of keepers for centuries, and now it was just her and a few other people who probably didn't even know she existed. Most of the unknown exotic race was nearly wiped out. Amber kept her eyes on the road, thinking about a distant memory.

Amber was in her room about to go outside with her friends for her birthday. She was turning eighteen, she was running down the stairs about to open the door when Sam, her protector said, "I have to tell you something important." He began, "I was just about to go out with my friends," Amber complained. "This too important, your plans can wait." He spoke lowly, almost a whisper. They walked side by side into the dimly lit kitchen. The man closed his eyes and rubbed his chin, sighing, and started to talk. "It's time for you to know the truth about your kind."

"This started out as a legend, the legend started in the early days, you know the Marilyn Monroe days- no, was it as early as the Shang Dynasty? Eight of your kind, one of the first, were sent to the earth. They all had a symbol on their right hand, just like the one you have on your wrist." Amber looked at her 'birthmark' or that's what they had told her it was anyways. And of course, it was really dumb, because who has a birthmark shaped exactly like a flame?

"They were all very close friends. But they found out that they had powers, powers that no one in the world had. They could control the elements. Fire, Lightning, Water, Shadow, Earth, Gravity, Air, and Force . These were the main elements.

These eight People were chosen because they were brave and wanted to do the right. Then People started to notice that they had powers and started to hunt the down for their power. These people kept it to themselves so no other people would know and start hunting them down to. They didn't want any competition.

They called themselves the Optin Hunters. These eight people lived until they died and gave it to one of their children that they thought was brave and would do the right. Then the Keepers were almost wiped out they created the protectors. The protect the keepers safe from the Hunters. Almost all the element keepers were killed because of the hunters. Some of them were able to hide with the humans. They all looked like humans."

"How do the hunters know that they're the Element Keepers and not just normal humans?"Amber timidly asked, fiddling with her fingers as she stared at the ground. "As I told you a couple moments ago, they all have a tattoo on their right hand that represents their power, It '.it's like," he hummed while he was thinking, "a scar." he continued humming a song that Amber knew well. "it looks like you have a burn. Like when you burn your skin and it leaves like a bump that's how the tattoo looks." There was a moment of silence until Sam whispered: "That's how they can tell the difference."

She remembered that day, she was terrified that people would try to kill her just because of her power. That night Amber didn't go out with her friends, using the sick card to get out of it. Instead, she learned hand to hand combat from Sam so she could be safe and know how to protect herself when needed. Amber had been so lost in her own thoughts she hadn't noticed she arrived.

Amber clambered out of her car and gaped at the row houses in beguilement. They were all identical tall homes, all with perfect green lawns and each a different color. Except for one. It was destroyed, with a large hole on the side, just like her's was.
