Milo~
*Flashback*
I walk down the dark street with Kandi, my little sister. My mother was once again drunk. The night was fiercely cool, blowing the trees wanting to knock them down. Kandi and I walked in silence. Her short dark hair was pulled into a bun, pieces of too short hair fly in her face. As we walk we hear voices shouting. I stop in my tracks pushing Kandi to the side beside a leaning trash bin. The voices get louder. I then see someone get shoved from the inside of a house. It was Nilani.

"You go and you never come back." A loud voice slurred.
"Fine. You'll regret this. You will need me! To pick up the broken glass of beer bottles! Or wash your dirty clothes!" Nilani choked out.
"What the h*ll?" Kandi whispered as she stepped closer.
"Don't move." I whisper back.
"Get off my porch b*tch." The voice slurred.

Nilani stumbled off the wooden porch stairs with a sweater in her trembling hands. Her hair was tangled in a ponytail that swung behind her as she ran down the sidewalk towards me, her hair was much longer then. As she neared me she looked me in the eyes and instantly turned her head as she sped up.

I sit in my desk now wondering if I would have helped her. If I would have stopped her from running to her own h*ll, maybe she would be mine. Or maybe her life wouldn't be as f*cked up as it seems to be now.

"Mr. Milo? Would you care to share your, obviously, intriguing daydream?" Ms. Louis asked.
"I'm fine." I say a little too softly.
"No. You must. I mean I would love to hear what has you so caught." She pushes.
"I said I'm fine. Continue." I say a little more louder.
"..See me after class, will you? No, never mind it's not an option. You WILL see me after class." She replies firmly.

I sigh. You've done it again Milo. You've embarrassed yourself once more. Not only did you embarrass yourself in front of your classmates but you have embarrassed yourself in front of her. Nilani. She doesn't seem to notice though. She keeps her head down. I turn my head towards her. Last row right desk at the end of the row. I wonder where she lives now. I haven't seen her at that house since. Bell rings and she still has her head down. I think she's sleep. I sit in my desk as everyone packs up. I watch her. Her back slowly heaving up and down. Her hair sticks up in places, yet it still looks silky. Her head is still down. I look away.
"Mr. Milo." Ms. Louis calls.
"Yes?" I ask as I continue to sit in my desk.
"Before we start our conference would you mind waking Nilani." Ms. Louis asks.
"Wake her-her up?" I stuttered.
"I didn't stutter, did I?" Ms. Louis asks strictly.

I slowly stood from my desk and walked towards Nilani's desk. Before I get to her desk she wakes up startled. She looks  around quickly and whispers a sorry before hurriedly picking up her books and making her way through the classroom door.

"Students." Ms. Louis mumbles.

I stand there staring at her desk. I almost touched her. My fingers almost brushed her soft skin.

"Milo. Come. Sit." Ms. Louis demands.
"Look, I'm sorry I've been spaced out during your class, but I have a lot of other things..on my mind. You know other than Chemistry." I admit.
"Right. Well it is none of my business as to what is bothering your mind. But it is my business if you fail this class. Lately you have been spaced out. Do you need another therapy session?" Ms. Louis says.
"No. No, that won't be necessary." I answer quickly.

She nods. I walk back to my desk and retrieve my things. I don't need her help. I don't need her pity. And I surely don't need her bullsh*t. This is only third period. How will I get through the next three?
